    • A process running on, for example, an embedded device without a floating point unit performs a calculation or series of calculations called for in a program written in an language that specifies floating point representation of all numbers using integer arithmetic, unless or until it must execute the calculation using floating point arithmetic due to presence of a non-integer number. Once this happens, the remaining calculations in the series of calculations are automatically handled using floating point arithmetic. Substantially fewer processor operations are necessary to perform the calculations using integer values than floating point values.

    • A communication mechanism or facility for enabling interaction with, and control of, a remote presentation engine for presenting a rich media application, such as one written using animated graphics allows the presentation engine to be configured or instructed remotely to perform certain actions, to send requests, and/or to send information, independently of the animated graphics application being executed. The communication facility between a workstation enables a presentation engine to pass a request by the application for resource stored on a workstation—an image file or a data file, for example—thereby creating a virtual file system. Local resource references can thus be maintained in the application during development without having to download all resources to the device in connection with testing.

    • A presentation engine collects information concerning the rendering of the frames of an animated graphics application, such the time taken for rendering the frame and the amount of memory used. This information quantifies the amount of certain computing resources being utilized on a per-frame basis, enabling identification by the authors of the animated graphics application, particularly by the designers of the animated graphics, of frames that are problematic, especially on resource-limited devices. The generation of information does not depend on the animated graphics application being instrumented to generate the metrics. The method is adaptable to any resource-limited device, to which the presentation engine is ported or adapted to run. When executing on a resource-limited device, the information is sent to a workstation for analysis. An analysis tool, which may be a stand-alone program or part of an authoring tool or other program, displays the collected metrics graphically in relation to the frame.

    • The invention concerns a reactor with acoustic cavitation comprising a tube (10) made of flexible material, wherein the liquid to be treated circulates. Electro-acoustic transducers (1) are radially and uniformly distributed around the tube (10). Each electro-acoustic transducer (1) has a general prismatic shape with a base of specific width and a head narrower than the base, the head pressed on the tube (10). Each electro-acoustic transducer (1) includes an electro-acoustic motor (78) mounted at the base such that the vibrations generated by the electro-acoustic motor (78) are amplified at the head by the electro-acoustic transducer (1) shape. Lubricating films (9) extend between the electro-acoustic transducers (1) heads and the tube (10), so as to produce an acoustic coupling of the electro-acoustic transducers with the tube. The whole set is in a sealed chamber (83) where the pressure is maintained at a predetermined value and where the lubricating and cooling liquid circulates.

    • An induction heating device for heating electrically-conducting material to temperatures of up to at least 300.degree. C. The device comprises an open core of ferrite material. A coil of Litz wire is wound around the core. A power source is connected across the coil to produce an excitation current in the coil, within a frequency range from 12 to 25 kHz, to generate a variable magnetic field when energized. Magnetic flux concentrator tubes of electrically-conductive material are disposed about the coil and close to the core embedded in a thermo-conductive electrically-insulating, material in the intend of maximizing the useful flux. A cooling fluid circulates through the concentrator tubes for cooling the tubes, the core and the coil. An induction zone is defined by said magnetic field generated between the opposed poles of the core and penetrating at the surface of the body to be heated. The body is heated by the eddy currents generated by the variable magnetic field on the surface.

    • The invention is related to an acousto-optical liquid crystal cell and the ways of using it in acoustical holography and imaging systems. The molecules of the liquid crystal layer can be reoriented in a direction perpendicular to the direction of an ultrasonic wave propagating in the medium. The cell has multi-layered walls providing high acoustical transparency for waves incident at various angles, such that multiple reflexions and parasitic effects in the liquid crystal are reduced. This results in a wide acoustic imaging field and high resolving power for details of an acoustic object. This cell makes possible the direct and real-time conversion of an acoustical hologram into a visible image representing at will the intensity on the phase variations of ultrasonic waves coming from the internal structures of a body.
