    • The anode sides of respective EL elements E1-E4 constituting icons are connected to a first potential V1, the cathode sides of the EL elements E1-E4 are connected to current absorption sides of constant current sources I1-I4, and current output sides of the constant current sources are connected to a second potential V2 whose potential is lower than that of the first potential via light emission control switches S11-S14. Current regulating resistors R101-R104 are connected in parallel corresponding to the respective EL elements E1-E4, and therefore by appropriately selecting the resistance values of the current regulating resistors R101-R104, light emission intensities of the respective EL elements E1-E4 constituting icons can be regulated appropriately. During an all extinction period during which the respective EL elements E1-E4 are all extinguished, an analog switch S201 is turned off, and an analog switch S202 is turned on. Thus, the anode sides of all EL elements E1-E4 become ground potential, and a reverse bias voltage is applied to all EL elements E1-E4. By periodic applying of this reverse bias voltage, the light emission lifetimes of the EL elements E1-E4 can be prolonged.

    • In order to realize, at a low cost, the function of an indicator which is brought to a light emitting state during a wait state, a panel 1 as a display section is constituted by self light emitting elements E11-Enm for example by organic EL elements, and organic EL elements which function as the indicator Ei which is brought to the light emitting state during the wait state are also formed on the same panel. Meanwhile, an indicator drive circuit 13 which drives and allows the organic EL elements that function as the indicator Ei to emit light is constructed by one chip IC together with the data driver 2. By forming the indicator drive circuit 13 as one chip IC in a data driver 2, the manufacturing cost can be reduced compared to the case where the indicator drive circuit is prepared separately.     • Provided is a driving device that enables compensating for the decrease in luminance characteristic due to the aging of an EL display panel. On a transparent substrate 11 made of, for example, glass, there are lamination-formed a number of luminescent elements 20. By this, a light from the luminescent element is radiated, via the transparent substrate, in a direction of its intersecting a substrate surface thereof, thereby a display image is formed. The driving device is equipped with photo-electric conversion means 23 that, when receiving part of the light from the luminescent element 20 that, by using as the interface a substrate surface of the transparent substrate 11 or a substrate surface of a light-guiding substrate 72 disposed on the transparent substrate 1 in a laminated state, is reflected within the substrate, produces an electric signal, as well as drive power setting means 25 that sets a luminescent drive power that is supplied to each of the luminescent elements. By this construction, it is possible to compensate for the decrease in luminance characteristic due to, for example, the aging of the luminescent element 20.
