    • A motor for use with an alternating current electrical outlet includes a retaining member, a rotor and a nutational actuator for nutating the rotor. The retaining member has at least one circumferential surface extending about an axis. The rotor is located adjacent to the retaining member and includes a magnet. The rotary actuator includes at least one magnetic member proximate the rotor, an electrically conductive coil about the at least one magnetic member and a plug having first and second prongs electrically connected to first and second ends of the coil. When the prongs are inserted into the electrical outlet, the alternating current flowing through the coil causes the rotor to nutate about the axis defined by the retaining member. In one exemplary embodiment, the rotor has a center of mass such that the rotor gyrates about the center of mass in response to alternating electrical currents flowing through the coil. In one exemplary embodiment, the retaining member is formed from a non-magnetic material and is integrally formed as part of a single unitary structure with a body supporting the magnetic member. According to one method, the motor is formed by providing a magnetic member having an axial end; wrapping an electrically conductive coil about the magnetic member, wherein the magnetic member has first and second opposite ends adapted for being connected to a source of an alternating electrical current; molding a mass of non-magnetic material about the magnetic member and the electrically conductive coil to form a body; forming a retaining member having an axis within the body proximate the axial end of the magnetic member; and positioning a rotor along the axis of the retaining member.

    • A load support system is provided including a flexible frame unit attached to a shoulder support structure and to a hip belt assembly. The frame is pivotally attached to the hip belt assembly and is held in a slightly bowed configuration, whereby load is transferred from the frame to the hip belt through pivot points and a venting space is created between the frame and a user's back. The shoulder support structure preferably includes a pair of independently positionable shoulder straps that are removably attached to the frame. The hip belt assembly preferably includes a load support belt that may be coupled to the frame, and a hip pad coupled to the load support belt via a hook and loop fastening system. The suspension system may be used to support backpacks, and the like, or may be adapted for other applications including SCUBA tank support. The suspension system may be adjusted independently of the load and affords considerable freedom of movement when worn, due particularly to the pivotal attachment of the hip belt assembly to the frame and to the form of the flexible frame.

    • A quick-release pin latch assembly comprises a first latch member configured for locking engagement with and a second latch member. The first latch member includes a body member and a load bearing post or pin extending outwardly from the body member. The load pin has an enlarged head portion offset from the body member by a shank portion. The second latch member includes a base plate and a somewhat flexible, elongate latch plate. The latch plate is anchored at one of its ends to the base plate, wherein the latch plate is biased to remain in substantial contact with the base plate. The base plate has a pin receiving elongate opening. The elongate opening is large enough at one end to allow the head portion of the pin to pass. The elongate opening is reduced at an opposite end to receive and establish coupling engagement with the shank portion of the pin. The latch plate has a retaining hole to receive and establish coupling engagement with the head portion of the pin. The assembly is latched by inserting the pin transversely through the enlarged end of the elongate opening to cause the latch plate to flex away from the base plate, and then moving the pin laterally toward the reduced end of the elongate opening until the head portion of the pin is received within the retaining hole of the latch plate. The latch plate then resumes substantial contact with the base plate, whereby the assembly is locked.

    • A canopy structure includes a plurality of support beams and a plurality of flexible connecting panels therebetween. Each of the plurality of support beams is formed by an elongate spine extending along an arc and first and second tension panels extending from the strip non-parallel to one another. The connecting panels extend between and interconnect the first and second tension panels of adjacent support beams, respectively. In the exemplary embodiment, each support beam includes a sleeve between the first and second tension panels, wherein the sleeve removably receives the spine. Each spine preferably comprises a strip that has a longitudinal length and a transverse width extending in a plane, wherein the strip is resiliently flexible in a direction non-parallel the plane and inflexible in a direction parallel to the plane and wherein the strip is arcuately deformed along its longitudinal length when inserted into the sleeve. In the exemplary embodiment, the first and second support beams cross one another at an apex. The first and second tension panels of each support beam divergently extend from the spine at a first acute angle proximate the apex and at a second greater acute angle distant the apex.

    • A snorkel including a mouthpiece, a tube and a sealing member is disclosed. The tube extends from the mouthpiece and includes a first end proximate the mouthpiece, a second end and at least one internal passageway having a port proximate the second end. The sealing member is slidably coupled to the tube proximate the second end and is sealed about the tube. The sealing member moves between a closed position in which the member occludes the port and an open position in which the port is open. The sealing member has an interior in communication with the at least one internal passageway when the sealing member is in the closed position. In the exemplary embodiment, the sealing member is sealed to the tube via a flexible membrane. In an exemplary embodiment, the flexible membrane preferably includes a bellows. In the exemplary embodiment, the sealing member defines a first sealing surface which engages a second sealing surface proximate the port to seal the port along the first seal line that defines a first area. The sealing member is sealed against the tube along a second seal line that defines a second area, wherein the first area is greater than the second area.
