    • A method of providing help prompts relating to the use of human-machine interfaces within a vehicle, the method comprising: monitoring user interaction with the human-machine interfaces within the vehicle; assessing a monitored user interaction against pre-determined available user interaction options; outputting a help prompt to the user in dependence on deviations between the monitored user interaction and the pre-determined available user interaction options. Aspects of the invention include the pre-determined available user interaction options comprising: optimal routes through a menu hierarchy between interface menu levels; shortcut buttons to jump between interface menu levels; alternative user input interaction methods; swipe gestures versus on-screen scroll buttons; available user-selectable menu options at a given menu level within a menu hierarchy. The help prompt may comprise a visual dialog box on the display screen, text based help message, audio message, icon/graphical based help, and the help prompt may relate to available user input interaction methods, unused user-selectable menu options, unused shortcut functions. Monitoring user interaction may comprise monitoring user workload, wherein the workload is determined via one or more of vehicle speed, acceleration, steering inputs to wheel, traffic density, road situation etc.

    • The present disclosure relates to a vehicle interface device configured to output a visual indication of a potential hazard. The vehicle interface device comprises display means 20, 21L/R, 23 configured to extend around at least a portion of a perimeter of an occupant compartment in a vehicle. A processor is coupled to said display means. The processor is configured, in dependence on object data relating to an identified object representing a potential hazard, to determine an angular position of the identified object relative to the vehicle. The processor generates a control signal to cause the display means to display a visual indicator at a display position in said display means corresponding to the determined relative angular position of the identified object; and modifies the control signal to progressively change the display position of the visual indicator within the display means at least substantially to match changes in the relative angular position of the identified object. The present disclosure also relates to a vehicle having a vehicle interface device.
