    • A system and method for mobile ground-to-air and air-to-ground communication network acceleration. The system and method can reduce the cost of airborne communication services by creating a faster connection and thus increasing data throughput. In one embodiment, the communication network acceleration system and method provide as much as a four-fold increase over standard high-speed data rates. This increase is made possible in part through the integration, implementation, and use of acceleration and compression technologies in the ground system that supports communications to and from an airborne terminal.

    • Apparatus is provided for forming a chime bead adjacent the closed end of a seamless cup-shaped metal can body and a plurality of peripheral beads intermediate the opposite ends of the can body. The apparatus includes a plurality of beading spindles receiving and supporting can bodies for movement along an arcuate path. The beading spindles are provided with beading tool portions corresponding to the chime and intermediate beads to be formed on a can body. The frame supports axially offset and sequentially arranged outer beading rails positioned along the arcuate path of spindle movement. During movement of the spindles along the path between input and output stations of the apparatus, can bodies on the spindles are rotated about the spindle axes and, as each can body moves past the outer beading rails, the beading tool portions of the spindles and the outer beading rails cooperatively engage a can body therebetween to sequentially form first the chime bead and then the intermediate beads on the can body. The outer beading rails are supported on the frame of the apparatus for adjustment of the positions of the beading rails axially, laterally and radially with respect to the axis of the arcuate path of movement of the spindles.

    • An automated communication system for communicatively connecting a caller by means of a telephone to an space craft includes a port for accepting a telephonic call related to a specific space craft from the caller and having a machine readable call management program, the call management program automatically effecting a telephonic communication to at least one selected ground earth station responsive thereto. The ground earth station effects communication with at least one known satellite in an earth orbit responsive to the received communication from the port. And, the satellite retransmits the ground earth station communications to the space craft for reception by a dedicated receiver in the space craft, thereby establishing a telephonic communications link from the caller to the specific space craft. A method and a program for effecting global communications between a ground station, a plurality of global satellite systems and a space craft are included.
