摘要： An optical disk 100 is provided with a hub 3 at the central portion of a substratel. A relationship Y/X≧0.015, preferably Y/X≧0.05 is satisfied where X is the projected area of the substrate 1 and Y is a contact area between the hub 3 and the substrate 1. As result, no slippage occurs between the hub 3 and the substrate 1 even when they are rotated at high speed than conventional. With this higher rotational speed, the data transfer rate is improved, and irregular rotation and the camming are suppressed, thereby reducing tracking errors and write/read errors.

摘要： A cartridge includes upper and lower half segments butting against each other and containing a disk, a shutter provided on one side of the cartridge half segments for exposing or alternatively enclosing the disk, and a torsion spring attached to the shutter for biasing the shutter in a closing direction. An insertion opening is formed in a side portion of the cartridge for permitting insertion of the torsion spring therethrough from outside, and a protective wall is provided upright between the insertion opening and the disk to define a space by the wall and the upper half segment. The space is so sized as to permit the torsion spring to pass therethrough while leaving a small clearance, with legs thereof directed laterally.

The first functional part has a breakable region through which the removable lock piece is connected with a portion of one of the disc casing and the lid structure, and the second functional part is engageable with a portion of the other of the disc casing and the lid structure to retain the lid structure in the closed position. The lid structure can be moved from the closed position towards the opened position only when and after the removable lock piece is broken off along the breakable region by application of an external force thereto.

The lid lock means includes at least one tubular boss having a through-hole defined therein, and an engagement piece accommodated within the through-hole and separably connected to the tubular boss, a part of the engagement piece protruding outwardly from one of opposite ends of the through-hole and engageable in a hole defined in one of top and bottom walls of the cartridge casing which is adjacent to said one of the opposite ends of the through-hole. That part of the engagement piece is engaged in the hole when the lid assembly is held in the closed position, but the engagement piece may be separated from the tubular boss when an external pushing force is applied thereto through the hole.

摘要： A disc cartridge for freely rotatably accommodating a disc-shaped recording medium has a slide shutter assembly for selectively opening and closing the access window through which a recording and/or reproducing head is accessible to the optical disc accommodated within the cartridge. The slide shutter assembly is of a generally U-shaped configuration including top and bottom shutter plates and a bridge plate connecting the top and bottom shutter plates. While the slide shutter assembly is slidably mounted on a front open portion of the cartridge casing, the bridge plate has an inner surface formed integrally with a plurality of catch pieces. At least one guide plate extends along the front open portion of the cartridge casing between side walls and has a slot defined therein so as to extend lengthwise of the guide plate. With the slide shutter assembly mounted on the front portion of the cartridge casing, the catch pieces are slidably engaged in said slot to avoid an accidental separation of the slide shutter assembly from the cartridge casing.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium, which includes a substrate and an amorphous magnetic layer, made of an amorphous magnetic material, for magnetic recording of data, is provided with an underlayer between the substrate and the amorphous magnetic layer, the underlayer being made of amorphous metal element, and having a mean thickness of 10 nm or less. In this manner, movement of magnetic domain walls of the amorphous magnetic layer is effectively limited by minute irregularities on a surface of the underlayer. This realizes a stable formation of a minute recording mark. This realizes recording having a sufficient signal quality, even when the high-density recording is performed by forming such a minute recording mark that a shortest length of the recording mark is less than 100 nm. Moreover, this allows the magnetic recording medium to have a simplified layer structure. Further, a magnetic recording apparatus magnetically records data onto a magnetic recording medium having the above arrangement, by heating a portion of the magnetic layer by radiating a light beam locally, and by applying a magnetic field on at least part of the portion of the magnetic layer on which the light beam is radiated. This provides a magnetic recording apparatus for high-density recording.
