    • A push type mechanical pencil with which a user can push out a lead with a fingertip work while keeping a writing posture and a grasping position unchanged. In this mechanical pencil, a hole is formed at fingertip portion of the outer cylinder and a leverlike push member is fitted in the hole with the lower end thereof extending into the inside of the outer cylinder. The push member has an inner engaging portion and an outer push portion, which are arranged forming a certain angle relative to each other. An enlarged portion is secured to the inner cylinder in contact with or in close proximity to the lower end of the push member whereby when the user pushes the push member down-wardly toward the inner cylinder, the lower end of the push member pushes the enlarged portion to move forwardly against the spring force to thereby force out the lead.

    • There is provided a push type mechanical pencil with which a user can push out a lead with a fingertip work while keeping a writing posture and a grasping position unchanged. In this mechanical pencil, a hole is formed at the part of the outer cylinder at which a user''s finger tip will be positioned when the pencil is grasped in writing position, and there are also provided a push member slidably fitted in said hole with the lower end thereof extending into the inside of said outer cylinder, and an engaging member secured to the inner cylinder in contact with or in close proximity to the lower end of said push member whereby when the user pushes said push member downwardly toward the inner cylinder, the lower end of said push member pushes the engaging member to move forwardly against the spring force to thereby force out the lead.

    • A mechanical pencil is disclosed which comprises a casing having a ferrule at its tip end and having an axially extending central bore formed therein, and a lead-containing sleeve fitted into the central bore and capable of containing a plurality of leads. The mechanical pencil includes a lead guide pipe which is mounted in the ferrule and extending into the central bore. A feed roller is rotatably mounted within the central bore between the lead guide pipe and the lead-containing sleeve for feeding a lead from the sleeve into the lead guide pipe. The feed roller has a frusto-conical configuration with its axis disposed at an angle with respect to the axis of the central bore, and is peripherally provided with a helical rib, which is adapted to engage the periphery of lead. A rotation is externally imparted to the shaft of the feed roller, thereby rotating it to feed a given length of the lead forward.

    • A mechanical pencil of knocking operated type includes an electrical indicator which provides a visible or audible indication of the presence or absence of a writing lead in the mechanical pencil. A power supply in the form of a cell or storage battery is loaded into a pen body. A first and a second channel are provided which electrically connect the power supply with the indicator. The first channel is associated with one of the poles of the power supply, and is formed by a collet chuck and a lead guide sleeve which are disposed within the pen body in spaced relationship from each other. The second channel is associated with the other pole of the power supply, and includes a switch which is operated in response to a knocking operation which drives the collet chuck. When a writing lead is present between the collet chuck and the lead guide sleeve, the both members are electrically connected together through the lead, whereby the first channel is rendered conductive. The second channel is rendered conductive when the switch is turned on in response to the knocking operation. Consequently, if any remaining lead is available, the indicator is operated each time the knocking operation takes place, but when the final lead is consumed to a degree that it is removed from the collet chuck, the knocking operation can not operate the indicator.

    • A mechanical pencil having a writing point tube slidably mounted on the forward end portion of a pencil casing, an annular slider device slidably mounted within the pencil casing and having a lead retainer, a first spring for urging the writing point tube in the forward direction, a collet chuck mechanism having a lead engaging collet and a chuck-actuation cylinder, a second spring urging both the lead engaging collet and the chuck-actuation cylinder in the opposite direction and a third spring for urging the collet chuck mechanism in the forward direction. The pencil has a locking device for temporarily engaging the slider at its retracted position, and a pusher for releasing the engagement of the slider. When an axial thrust is applied to the writing tip of the pencil for lead advancement, the slider and the collet chuck mechanism as well are retracted within the pencil casing with their positional relation being unchanged. When the thrust against the writing tip is released, the collet chuck mechanism is advanced at first with the lead grasped therein to feed the lead out of the lead tube while the slider is temporarily engaged at its retracted position, and thereafter the pusher abuts against the slider to unlock it so that the slider advances by the effect of the first spring with the lead projecting from the lead tube.
