    • The invention relates to a tool-holder column for a unit for converting a flat substrate, comprising: two upper bearings (14, 16), each intended to support one end of an upper rotary tool (10), and two lower bearings (15, 17), each intended to support one end of a lower rotary tool (11), the flat substrate being intended to be moved longitudinally between the upper rotary tool (10) and the lower rotary tool (11), and the bearings (14, 15, 16, 17) being movable vertically in opposing directions, on each side of the longitudinal direction (L) of movement of the flat substrate; and a drive element common to the bearings (14, 15, 16, 17), allowing the simultaneous movement of the bearings (14, 15, 16, 17) over the same distance in opposing directions, and comprising a screw device (25), the bearings (14, 15, 16, 17) being mounted one above the other on the screw device (25), such that the rotation of the screw device (25) causes the linear movement of the bearings (14, 15, 16, 17) in opposing directions.

    • A resilient scoring rule for a rotary cutting die produces a creased or indented line in cardboard or paperboard along which line the board is subsequently folded when formed into a final product, such as a container. The scoring rule has a longitudinally extending, centrally disposed projecting web and opposed, cantilevered, symmetrical inwardly directed left and right ears having ends generally adjacent the central web. A pair of outwardly extending flanges raise the edge adjacent regions of the rule off the cutting die surface and function as mounting features which cooperate with staples or other retaining devices. An alternate embodiment scoring rule includes a pair of center projections or ribs flanked by a pair of cantilevered ears.

    • A method of making corrugated board having at least one fold region includes the steps of securing at least two sheets of paper liner in complementary facing engagement to create a first multi-layer liner. A first set of ridges of a first corrugated paper medium is secured to the first multi-layer composite liner to create a first single-face web. At least two sheets of paper liner are secured in complementary facing engagement to create a second multi-layer composite liner. A first set of ridges of a second corrugated paper medium is secured to the second multi-layer composite liner to create a second single-face web. A selected portion of the second corrugated paper medium is compressed to create an area to be bent. A second set of ridges of the first corrugated paper medium is secured to the second multi-layer composite liner. Adhesive is applied to the second set of ridges of the second corrugated paper medium, except for the compressed selected portion. A third liner is secured to a second set of ridges in the second corrugated paper medium such that the selected portion of the second corrugated paper medium is spaced from the third liner. The first multi-layer composite liner, the first corrugated paper medium, the second multi-layer composite liner and at least part of the selected portion of the second corrugated paper medium are cut along two lines to form a cutout area which is aligned with the bend area. The cutout area is then removed from the corrugated board using a vacuum process.
