    • An improved modular squatdown suspension system intended for use with a vehicle body of the cube-shaped delivery van type is provided. The vehicle body (12) includes a substantially horizontal frame (30) supporting a cargo-holding floor that is movable from a ground-contacting load/unload mode wherein the floor (14) is lowered by the squatdown suspension system to be at a subtle angle substantially horizontal to the ground to a raised transport mode. An integral ramp (20) facilitates the loading of a variety of different types of cargo. An improved vehicle body positioning and suspension system unit (32) is associated with each wheel (34) and is actuated to raise or lower the truck frame and floor by the inflation and deflation of an airbag (40) associated with each wheel. Control and safety features are provided to be actuated in the event of an involuntary loss of air from the system.

    • A vehicle such as a trailer includes a vehicle body (10), a pair of ground wheels (26) and a suspension system (30) resiliently supporting the body (10) with respect to the wheels (26). The suspension system (30) is so dimensioned and positioned as to be actuable to alter the relative vertical positions of the ground wheels (26) and vehicle body (10) from a normal condition in which the vehicle is mobile to one in which, with a first extremity (24) of the vehicle body (10) supported in a raised position, the vehicle body (10) is inclined from said first extremity (24) to a lowered extremity (25) closely adjacent or in contact with the ground. The preferred suspension includes inflatable/deflatable air bags (38) having air supply lines (40) and acting between the vehicle body (10) and arms (32) which support the wheels (26).

    • A trailer comprises a platform (11) suspended on one close-coupled pair of wheels (12 and 13) on either side. Two hydraulic jacks (18 and 52) on either side act between the platform (11) and a respective swinging suspension arm (16). The working fluid spaces of the jacks (18 and 52) are connected in a hydraulic circuit including a valve block, a liquid reservoir, a hand pump and one ortwo stop cocks. The stop cocks are left open when the trailer is set for towing so that liquid transfer between the working fluid spaces and the reservoir is allowed. The hand pump is operated with the stop cocks closed to extend or contract the jacks (18 and 52) to pivot the platform (11) when the trailer is stationary. The platform (11) is locked in any selected attitude for loading or unloading when the stop cocks are closed and the hand pump is not operated.

    • The invention relates to a tipping mechanism for a trailer with a tipping receptable, comprising hoisting means for tipping said receptable, which mechanism is part of an individual trailer-construction with a self-supporting receptable (1), capable of being tipped separately, and comprises:
      hoisting means (2) provided to said receptable (1), adapted to co-operate with front support means (3) in order to allow elevation of one end of said receptable,
      rear support means (12) provided to said receptable (1), adapted to support the opposite end of said receptable (1) when being tipped, and
      connection means (6) between said front support means (3) and said rear support means (12).
      The invention also relates to tipping trailers equipped with such a tipping mechanism as described hereabove.
