    • A lighting track for use in public transportation vehicles comprises an outer track having upstanding walls connected together by a base portion, together defining a first retention channel. The upstanding walls have a downwardly facing first barrier portion. A receptacle has first and second side walls connected together by a spanning portion, together defining an second retention channel. The side walls have an upwardly facing second barrier portion, and a downwardly facing third barrier portion. When the receptacle is in place in the first retention channel, the first and second side walls are each selectively movable between a respective locking position where the second barrier portion is in intimate engagement with the first barrier portion and a respective unlocking position where the second barrier portion is removed from intimate engagement with the first barrier portion. A top cover has first and second side walls connected together by a lens. The side walls have an upwardly facing fourth barrier portion. A lighting element is disposed between the receptacle and the top cover. When the protective top cover is in place in the second retention channel of the receptacle and the receptacle is in place in the first retention channel of the outer track, the first and second barrier portions intimately engage each other in interfering relation, and the third and fourth barrier portions intimately engage each other in interfering relation, so as to lock the receptacle within the outer track and to lock the protective top cover within the receptacle.

    • An apparatus for visually guiding the occupants of a structure in a path of travel along the floor within a structure is provided. This apparatus is comprised of a carpet overlying the floor, and a lighting strip positioned underneath the carpet. The lighting strip comprises an elongate ribbon, with a group of laterally spaced-apart electrical conductors encased in and extending longitudinally of the ribbon of sheet material. A series of light-transmissive plastic housings are connected to and arranged longitudinally along a common outer surface of the ribbon of plastic sheet material. Light-emitting means are positioned within each of the housings, and are electrically connected to predetermined ones of the group of electrical conductors encased in the ribbon of sheet material. The carpet has holes extending therethrough which are arranged in a series corresponding to the series of light-transmissive housings on the lighting strip. The housings are positioned in the holes of the carpet so that when the light-emitting means positioned within the housings are energized, a visually discernible pathway appears along the face of the carpet.

    • A reflector assembly for a low voltage incandescent bulb includes a reflector housing that defines a reflector cavity. A bulb socket holds an incandescent bulb in the cavity so that the bulb filament is positioned wholly within the cavity. The cavity has a glossy white, semireflective surface throughout with the exception of a reflective, mirrored strip having a matte finish that extends from a location inwardly of the bulb filament and adjacent the bulb socket, behind the filament, and down one wall of the cavity to a location adjacent the cavity opening. This reflective structure unexpectedly increases the diffused light output of the assembly by on the order of 40%.
