    • A method and apparatus for creating an illusion of depth when viewing moving pictures projected on a plane surface. Glasses to worn by a viewer when viewing the moving pictures have the property of altering or distorting the real image projected. The disparity between the apparent images viewed by the two eyes creates an image disparity that is interpreted as a perception of depth. The glasses incorporate a lens for the dominant eye and a lens for the docile eye of the viewer with lens for the dominant eye having different attributes than the attributes for the docile eye. The lens for dominant eye narrows the image along the visual plane and the lens for the docile eye broadens the image along the visual plane. The lens for each eye is appropriately tinted to enhance the perception of depth. The glasses are reversible to enable placing the desired lens in front of the dominant and thus the docile eye.

    • Apparatus and methods are described whereby a projected television image is divided into two horizontally displaced images, and an observer wears glasses to synthesize three-dimensionality from the 2-D image. Switching means are provided so that the components associated with creating the 3-D effect may be made operative or inoperative, either mechanically or electrically. One or more wedge prisms or holographic optical elements are mounted on a frame along with polarizing filters, and a lever is used to transfer these elements into and out of the beam of a projected television image. Alternatively, an electrically or acoustically activated spatial light modulator and liquid-crystal polarizers may be left in the path of the projected beam and made operative and inoperative by way of electrical signals. The invention may be used with both single-source and multi-source projected images, and may be used in conjunction with both frontal and rear projection.

    • A support frame is coupled to a counterweight frame to form a mechanical oscillator in which oscillations of adjustable amplitudes are induced to produce parallax, oscillatory scanning motion of a camera rotatable mounted by the support frame. A spring assembly, acting on the support and counterweight frames, establishes an effective spring constant to tune the resonator to a particular resonate frequency. Rotatable motion of the camera relative to the support frame consistently directs the optical axis of the camera to a signal convergence point in the scene being photographed. Separate motors are selectively energized by a control system to regulate the amplitudes of resonator oscillation to a desired disparity setting, to tune the resonator to a desired resonant frequency setting, and to direct the camera to a desired convergence point setting.
