The arm 18 performs a reciprocating motion in the vertical direction with an actuator means 37, a cylinder 35 and a piston 39. A guide pipe 46 is disposed on the upper part of the arm 18, and guides a reciprocating motion of the cylinder 35 together with the arm 18 and transports a liquid from the arm 18. The guide pipe 46 is connected to an outflow liquid outlet 49 for transporting a filtered outflow liquid.

A cylinder 49 is operated just before the starting of the downward stroke movement of the cylinder 118 and a piston 46 is quickly moved upward relatively from a cylinder 42. A liquid discharged from the cylinder 42 through an open end 43 and a hole is sent to the pipe 116, passed through the screen 114 and its meshes so as not to clog the meshes.

CONSTITUTION: A piston 44 in a chamber 42 is moved by a piston moving means 50 to discharge liquid from the chamber 42 immediately before the backflushing of the screen 24 by the quick motion of the screen in a direction opposite to the flowing direction of pulp. The liquid performs limited compression of liquid in the screen and forms an empty volume at the reverse side of the piston. The pressure shock in the pulp inlet range and the generation of pulp compression can be prevented in the backflushing of screen by the volume available by the pulp near the pulp inlet 16.
