    • A bicycle shift control device includes a fixed member and a rotatable member rotatably coupled to the fixed member for rotation around a handlebar between at least two shift positions. The fixed member is adapted to be coupled to the handlebar adjacent a hand gripping area of the handlebar. The rotatable member has inner and outer axial ends with a tubular outer actuating surface extending between the inner and outer ends and around a center longitudinal axis of the hand gripping area. The actuating surface is configured to define a tubular hand grip with a finger operating projection extending outwardly relative to the tubular hand grip. The actuating surface includes a first portion constructed of a first material and a second portion constructed of a second material more rigid than the first material. The second portion has the finger operating projection.

    • A barend mounted twist shifter provides for ergonomic shifting and eventual brake actuation. The barend, which commonly provides an ergonomic hold on position for a bike rider's hands at the peripheral handlebar ends provides for an attaching location for the inventive twist shifter. Consequently, a bike rider may operate the bike's derailleur without taking his hands from the barends. A brake actuator may be combined with the twist shifter. The shifter's spool around which the shifter cable coils, may be positioned in the assembly adjacent the barend's tip. Its minimum diameter is substantially independent from the barend's outside diameter and may be reduced such that the actuation torque on the gripdrum may be lowered as well. The gripdrum and spool may be combined with a ratchet mechanism that may be easily integrated in the shifter's housing adjacent the barend's tip. A thumb perch serves as a release for down shifting.

    • A switch for actuating a gear on a bicycle includes a housing with an inner toothing formation, a grip part and a rotary part with a cable drum for a traction cable. The grip part having an integrally formed section for actuating an elastic element on the rotary part so that when the grip part is rotated in a switching direction which releases the traction cable, the elastic element is pretensioned until a disengagement means on the grip part disengages a pawl on the rotary part which interacts with the inner toothing formation in the housing. Both the pawl and the elastic element are connected integrally to the rotary part resulting in advantages in terms of the production and assembly of the switch.
