    • A superconductor motor operates as a squirrel cage induction motor. The rotor is covered with a thin film of superconducting material and the magnetic field created by the stator is strong enough to quench the superconducting material to its normal state at periodic spots on the rotor. This periodic quenching both creates a squirrel cage configuration of superconducting material on the rotor and allows the stator field to penetrate the rotor to induce a current. Once the squirrel cage is nullcreatednull by the stator field and a current induced, the motor operates as a conventional squirrel cage induction motor.

    • A method for fabricating an induction motor rotor lamination includes using an indexed notching die to punch a plurality of closed rotor slots at different distances from a center point of rotation by punching a first rotor slot, changing the position of a center point of the rotor lamination with respect to the notching die, and punching a second rotor slot. In another embodiment, a plurality of rotor slit patterns are punched using a variable depth indexed notching die including at least two rotor slit punching portions, one being deeper than another, by punching a first rotor slit pattern, changing the depth of closure of the notching die, and punching a second rotor slit pattern with the second rotor slit pattern having a different number of rotor slits than the first. In another embodiment, each rotor slit is open to and off center with respect to its respective rotor slot, and rotor laminations are stacked by positioning some of the rotor laminations in an orientation with is turned over and rotated with respect to others of the rotor laminations; filling the rotor slots and the rotor slits with cage material; and machining outer surfaces of the rotor laminations. In another embodiment, uniformly spaced identical rotor slots are punched and modulation is created by punching a contoured outside diameter or by inserting slot wedges of molded magnetic material.

    • The invention relates to an electric motor, comprising a rotor (1). One side of said rotor (1) is mounted in a stator (3) by means of a bearing (2) and the rotor tapers away conically from said stator in an axial direction, forming an air gap (4) between the latter (3) and the rotor. The width of said gap increases in an axial direction, moving away from the bearing (2). The aim of the invention is to achieve improved operating efficiency using a conically designed rotor. To this end, the rotor (1) has a number of axially extending grooves (7) in a magnetically conductive material (5), in which electric conductors are placed and the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the thickness of a cover (8) of the grooves (7) through the magnetically conductive material of the rotor (1) in a radial direction between the end of a groove (9) lying at the outer radius and a peripheral surface (10) of the rotor (1), is less than in the case of a thickness of the cover (8) which continuously diminishes in an axial direction away from the bearing (2).
