    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic water-soluble working fluid which is applicable to the cutting, grinding or polishing of metal members such as steel, alloy steel and aluminum, brittle materials such as quartz, silicon and ceramics, or composite materials such as vitreous carbon, exerts excellent lubricating properties even in high-load regions, brings about improvement in working speed, inhibits tool wear, thus attaining high productivity, and which is excellent in cost merit, contains neither mineral oil nor extreme pressure agents such as chlorine compounds and sulfur compounds and is extremely reduced in the contents of an oiliness improver and synthetic oil, thus lowering environmental loads.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant base oil, excellent in low temperature characteristics, and satisfying both of viscosity-temperature characteristics and low temperature viscosity characteristics in high levels, a method for producing the same and also a lubricant composition containing the lubricant base oil.
      SOLUTION: This lubricant base oil is characterized by having a 4-6 mass% urea adduct value and a ≥100 viscosity index. Also, the method for producing the lubricant base oil is provided by performing hydrocracking by using vacuum distillation distillate oil, mild hydrocracking-treated oil of the vacuum distillation distillate, de-asphalted oil, mild hydrocracking-treated oil of the de-asphalted oil or a mixed oil of at least two of them as a raw material in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst and further, treating the product by combining a de-aromatic treatment and a wintering treatment so that the obtained treated material has the 4-6 mass% range urea adduct value and ≥100 viscosity index. Also, the lubricant composition contains the above lubricant base oil.
