    • PURPOSE:To develop a hollow yarn filter module excellent in filtering capacity, by arranging two or more of filter members, each of which is formed by fixing a large nunber of hollow yarn filter membranes in a U-shaped bundled state, in opposed relation to each other and providing a filtrate gathering chamber to one water intake surface to perform the confluence with the filtrate by the other filter member through pipings. CONSTITUTION:In a filter module as a water purifier using hollow yarn filter membranes, a large number of hollow yarn membranes 3, each of which is opened at both ends and excellent in filtering capacity, comprising a cellulosic or polyolefin material are bent into a U-shape and fixing to a ring shaped member 1 at opening ends thereof in a bundled state by a fixing member 2 comprising polyurethane. Two or more of thus formed filter members are arranged so that U-shaped hollow yarn filter membranes are opposed and a filtrate gathering chamber 5 is provided to the water intake surface of one of the filter members while piping 7 for allowing the filtrate in the gathering chamber 5 to be confluent to that by the other filter member is arranged. By this method, the hollow yarn filter module having high utilization efficiency of the constitutional hollow yarn filter membranes is developed.

    • PURPOSE: To facilitate the production of a porous fluorocarbon resin membrane having excellent chemical resistance and a extremely large pore diameter, by dissolving a solvent-soluble polymer containing a vinyl fluorocarbon resin and a pore forming agent in an organic solvent, removing the solvent from the solution and stretching the membrane.
CONSTITUTION: A solvent-soluble polymer containing at least one vinylic fluorine-containing compound and a pore forming agent are dissolved in an organic solvent. The resulting solution is desolvated in an atmosphere containing this organic solvent and the membrane is stretched at a ratio ≥1.2, to obtain a porous polymer membrane containing the pores with a shape of an ellipse having a major axis of 1W50μm and an average major axis which is 1.5 times the average minor axis. The above polymers which can be suitably used include polyvinyl fluoride or copolymers of vinylidene fluoride with tetrafluoroethylene or propylene. The porosity of the porous membrane is preferably 20W85%.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fibers, having a high out of roundness, high selective permeability and strength with neither uneveness in shape nor pinholes, and useful as artificial organs, etc., by dipping hollow cellulosic ester fibers in an alkaline solution, and hydrolyzing the fibers at a specific humidity and temperature. CONSTITUTION:A cellulosic ester, e.g. cellulose acetate, is dissolved in DMF, etc., filtered and deaerated to give a spinning solution, which is then extruded through a spinneret of double pipe structure with a core agent. The extruded fibers are then led to a coagulating bath and coagulated to give hollow fibers. The resultant fibers are then dipped in an alkali solution, e.g. an aqueous solution of caustic soda, and hydrolyzed in a steam atmosphere at a relative humidity >=60% and a temperature of 90-150 deg.C. The completion of the saponification reaction is judged by the presence or absence of an absorption at 1,740cm showing the presence of carbonyl groups by measuring the infrared spectrum, and the operations are repeated if the saponification is insufficient. EFFECT:The saponifying time can be reduced to (1/2)-(1/5) of the time required in the conventional method.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a separation apparatus comprising a hollow fiber bundle easily and inexpensively by fixing the fiber bundle formed by bending a longitudinally continuous hollow fiber at a definite length by adhering it at the bent parts of both ends.
CONSTITUTION: A hollow fiber 1 is bent in a definite length to form an almost parallel fiber bundle as well as both ends thereof are fixed by an adhesive 2 so as not to be frayed. The resultant fiber bundle is cut prior to being assembled into a module and terminal ends of said hollow fiber are opened as shown by Figure (b) or opened after said fiber is formed into the module. Because both end parts are fixed, said hollow fiber bundle is not frayed and can be handled as a piece of material. Further, in making the module, removal by cutting of both ends of said fiber bundle and a waste portion can be reduced.
