    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an isoindoline pigment having excellent transparency without crystal growth of the pigment even when washed with an organic solvent and reduced formation of pinholes even when compounded with a binder and formed into a film. SOLUTION: The isoindoline pigment is obtained by washing with a non-polar organic solvent such as a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon such as hexane, heptane or octane, a saturated aliphatic alicyclic hydrocarbon such as cyclohexane or methylcyclohexane or an aromatic hydrocarbon such as toluene or xylene. The pigment is compounded with a binder component such as a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, a photosensitive resin, a monomer and an oligomer, etc., to afford a color paste.     • PURPOSE:To obtain the above composition excellent in water resistance, workability, and film hardness by using a specified aqueous polyester-modified epoxy resin composition and an aqueous aminoplast resin as its constituents. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic epoxy resin (e.g., a bisphenol A-diglycidyl ether epoxy resin) having an epoxy equivalent of 170 to 4,000 is reacted with a polyester resin [e.g., a polyester resin obtained from ethylene glycol and phthalic acid (anhydride) by condensation through dehydration] having a hydroxyl value of 50 or greater so that at least 40mol% of the epoxy groups are consumed, thus giving a polyester-modified epoxy resin. This resin is reacted with a polybasic carboxylic acid or its anhydride to give an aqueous polyester-modified epoxy resin composition having an acid value of 20 to 300 and capable of forming an aqueous solution in the presence of a volatile base (e.g., dimethylethanolamine). This composition and an aqueous aminoplast resin (e.g., hexamethoxymelamine) are used as resin components to produce an objective water-base coating composition.
