    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium superior in abrasion resistance and durability, by incorporating oleic acid, higher fatty acid or higher aliphatic alcohol, and a hydrocarbon lubricant in a magnetic layer so as to produce their synergistic effect. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer contains 100pts.wt. magnetic powder and 0.1-20pts.wt. lubricants consisting of 1-50wt% oleic acid, 5-3wt% higher fatty acid or higher aliphatic alcohol, each preferably having >=12C, and 94-47wt% hydrocarbon lubricant. The magnetic layer may be formed by adding the lubricants into a magnetic coating material or coating the magnetic layer already formed with the lubricants. As a result, the obtained disc, etc. are prevented from bleed-out of the lubricant and soiling of the magnetic head, and enhanced in abrasion resistance, durability, etc.
