摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ultrafine short fiber from which a nonwoven fabric excellent in formation is produced. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ultrafine short fiber includes a process for forming an ultrafine continuous fiber bundle by treating a continuous fiber containing a first resin component capable of being removed by a specific solvent and a second resin component difficult to be removed by the solvent with the solvent and removing the first resin component, another process for applying a finish to the ultrafine continuous fiber bundle, and/or a third process for fixing the ultrafine continuous fiber bundle by a fixing means capable of preventing deformation of the bundle, and the other process for forming the ultrafine continuous fiber bundle into the ultrafine short fiber by cutting the bundle. Therefore, films are formed in spaces between threads of the ultrafine continuous fiber by absorbing heat generated when the ultrafine continuous fiber bundle is cut, so that threads of the ultrafine short fiber are prevented from being fused with each other. And/or, the ultrafine continuous fiber bundle is prevented from being deformed, when the bundle is cut. Thus, the nonwoven fabric excellent in the formation is produced. The process for removing the first resin composition may be conducted at the last stage, while this method is different from the method specified in the above.
