    • A method for selecting a signal to noise ratio for a communications code includes obtaining extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) information for a repeat-zigzag Hadamard (RZH) code responsive to a Hadamard order and a signal to noise ratio, determining code parameters for an irregular repeat zigzag Hadamard (IRZH) code for a corresponding code rate in response to the obtained EXIT values, and repeating the step of obtaining the EXIT information for a different signal to noise ratio if the corresponding code rate is other than a selected rate. The corresponding code rate is related to a bit error rate. In a preferred embodiment, the step of obtaining EXIT information includes one of obtaining an EXIT curve for repeat-zigzag Hadamard code by Monte Carlo simulation using serial decoding or obtaining an EXIT function for parallel decoding of the repeat-zigzag Hadamard code by using equations.

    • A signal processing apparatus includes a first baseline wander correcting unit, provided in a processing path in which a predetermined processing is performed on an input signal, which corrects baseline wander by a feedforward and a second baseline wander correcting unit, provided anterior to the first baseline wander unit, which corrects the baseline wander by a feedback control. The second baseline wander correcting unit calculates a value corresponding to an average value of the amount of baseline wander derived by the baseline wander derivation unit and coarse-adjusts a correction amount of baseline, and corrects the baseline wander by using the coarse-adjusted baseline amount. The fine correcting by the first baseline wander correcting unit and the coarse correcting by the second baseline correcting unit ensure efficient correction of baseline wander.

    • Disclosed herein is a method of forming cross-linked polymer microspheres, comprising the steps of:forming a reaction mixture essentially free of stabilizer and comprising a polymerization medium, a di-vinyl cross-linking agent, a functional co-monomer which is copolymerizable with said cross-linking agent and a radical initiator, with said cross-linking agent, said functional co-monomer and said initiator being soluble in said polymerization medium;subjecting said reaction mixture to conditions selected to form microspheres with two modes of stabilization, a first being provided by cross-linking, and a second being provided by short stabilizing chains extending outwardly from the microsphere and into said medium, said stabilizing chains having a sufficient concentration of said functional co-monomer to have steric stability in said medium.
