    • A metal enclosed multi-phase high voltage switching arrangement filled with compressed gas and provided with an interior protective wall between the bus bar chamber and the switch chamber. The electrical connection between the two chambers is established via gas tight passages or passthroughs arranged diagonally in the protective wall, with the passages being disposed, in one direction, at the spacing between the bus bars and, in the other perpendicular direction, at the spacing of the poles of the high voltage power or load switch in the switch chamber. Straight connections without crossovers are provided in the bus bar chamber between each bus bar and the associated passage via the respective disconnect or three-way position bus bar switch, while the connecting lines in the switch chamber from the passages to the respective poles of the high voltage switch extend in mutually parallel planes, here again without cross-overs.

    • Improved switchblade-type, air dielectric switchgear apparatus is provided which utilizes a minimum of supporting insulators and incorporates readily field-replaceable bushing assemblies so that the switchgear apparatus may be serviced in the field using only conventional tools. In preferred forms, the switchgear apparatus includes internal switch assemblies making use of substantially vertically oriented switchblades mounted for pivotal movement about an elevated, generally horizontal axis located above the corresponding stationary contacts. The replaceable bushing assemblies are advantageously mounted at a level for interconnection with the upper ends of associated switchblades, and the assemblies include a conical outermost connection and adapted to receive a line connecting elbow, together with an elongated, inwardly extending, electrically conductive intermediate portion carrying an innermost terminal. The inner terminal is designed for frictionally engaging the upper end of an associated switchblade, and for this purpose includes a pair of depending, spring-loaded contact plates. If a given bushing assembly requires replacement, it is only necessary to externally disconnect the assembly from the switch housing wall, followed by manual removal of the defective assembly. An identical replacement assembly is then inserted through the tank wall and the assembly terminal is initially positioned relative to the switchblade, this operation being facilitated by visual inspection through a window below the bushing assemblies. The replacement bushing is then attached using external connection hardware, this operation serving to properly and finally position the terminal relative to the switchblade.

The position of these contact faces and the attachment devices on the contact faces for the connection of the cables varies according to the form of installation given in the switching equipment. The contact faces are formed as a separate part from the terminal plate. On both the separate part and the terminal plate, bores for connection of the part and the plate are provided which do not affect the sealing by the terminal plates of the interior of the interrupter unit at its outer end faces. The bores permit an attachment of the separate part to the contact face in either a first position, or a second position which is rotated by 90.degree. from said first position.

The operating member is driven to operate the interrupting unit. The base drive is connected to receive the first drive output of the operator and in turn to provide a driving output to the operating member. The second drive output is connected through appropriate linkage to rotate the insulating support column.

    • In a hydraulic driving device for an electric pressurized-gas switch, the piston-cylinder systems are responsive to pressure from a hydropneumatic pressure accumulator. The driving device is equipped with a hydraulic pump which feeds several pressure accumulators and is controlled by pressure monitors, and with a gas monitoring device for the pressure monitors. For solving the problem of carrying out indirect gas monitoring while feeding several pressure accumulators by one hydraulic pump instead of direct gas monitoring, there is provided at least one threshold switch for measuring the feed pressure of the hydraulic pump as part of the gas monitoring device. By feeding the pressure accumulators which takes place sequentially in time and is controlled on the one hand by the gas monitoring device and by the pressure monitors on the other hand, it is possible to establish a correlation specific as to the pressure accumulator of the gas loss signal delivered by the threshold switch.

    • A single-phase ground enclosed load break switch for distribution voltages has a hermetically sealed cylindrical metal housing of from 2 to 6 inches diameter which contains an insulating gas under pressure. The switch has a movable contact assembly to contact a pair of opposed stationary coaxial conductors within the housing. Movement of the contact assembly along one conductor breaks the connection with the other conductor and simultaneously reduces the sliding contact force on the first conductor. The switch has conductive bands coaxially positioned near the housing around the conductors for low voltage measurements monitoring conductor energization and contact position. A rocking bellows at the fulcrum of a crank actuator provides a compact hermetic seal for the actuator without excessive strain of the bellows. A safety interlock with a visual indicator locks the contact assembly in case of a loss of pressure. Excessive pressure in the switch causes the bellows to be punctured with consequent locking of the contact assembly. The switch is small enough to be mounted directly on a transformer or placed into a cable, without the need for a separate enclosure.
