    • The optical glass has a refractive index nd of 1.945≦nd≦1.97, an Abbe number νd of 33≦νd≦36, and a composition with the following components in amounts expressed in % of their cations, with respect to the total number of cations in the composition: B3+, 35-46; La3+, 25-35; Ta5+, 6-14; W6+, 6-13; Zr4+, 1-7; Gd3+, 0-5; Nb5+, 0-4; Y+3, 0-4; Ba2+, 0-2; Σ alkaline earth metal cations, 0-2, Σ La3++Ta3++W6++Zr4++Gd3++Nb5++Y3+≧50; and at least one fining agent, 0-0.3. Also a ratio of B3+ to La+3 is 1.1 to 1.6 and a ratio of B3+ to Σ Si+4+B3+ is ≧0.5. The glass is free of lead, arsenic, Ti4+, Th4+, Zn2+, F−, and Hf+4.

    • A high-refractivity low-dispersion optical glass that gives press-molding preforms excellent in high-temperature shapability and suitable for precision press-molding, including an optical glass comprising B2O3, La2O3, Gd2O3 and ZnO as essential components, substantially containing none of lead and fluorine, having a refractive index (nd) of 1.72 to 1.83, an Abbe's number (νd) of 45 to 55 and a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 630° C. or lower and having a viscosity of at least 0.6 Pa·s at its liquidus temperature, and an optical glass comprising, by mol %, 45 to 65% of B2O3, 5 to 22% of La2O3, 1 to 20% of Gd2O3, provided that the total content of La2O3 and Gd2O3 is 14 to 30%, 5 to 30% of ZnO, 0 to 10% of SiO2, 0 to 6.5% of ZrO2 and 0 to 1% of Sb2O3, substantially containing none of lead and fluorine, and having a refractive index (nd) of 1.72 to 1.83 and an Abbe's number (νd) of 45 to 55.

    • An optical glass having a refractive index (nd) within a range from 141 to 1.47 and an Abbe number (νd) within a range from 90 to 100 comprises in mass % on element basis: P 0.1-5.0% Al 1.0-20.0% F30.0-60.0% and O 1.0-20.0% and comprises, as an essential component, one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr and Ba. In this optical glass, the ratio (Si+B+P+Al)/F is within a range from 0.15 to 0.40.
