    • In an image correction method, an image of an object is captured, and a standard image of the object is obtain from a storage system of a computing device. A target area contains most image characteristics of the object is determined from the standard image of the object, and a standard pixel block having N×N pixels is extracted from the target area. The captured image is divided into M pixel blocks having N×N pixels. Each of the pixel blocks of the captured image are analyzed with the standard pixel block. A pixel value of each pixel of the captured image is corrected according the analysis, and the corrected image is output to a display device of a computing device for display.

    • It is necessary to provide inspection arrangements in order to facilitate prototype design of assemblies such as gas turbine engines as well as insitu testing of such assemblies. Previously endoscope type arrangements have been utilized, but the flexible or rigid stems in such endoscopes can cause fouling and snagging in use. By providing an inspection arrangement in which the inspection element is combined with a positioning tool such that the inspection element can be detached from the positioning tool through a releasable element, it is possible to avoid such snagging problems. The inspection element will be relatively self-sufficient and incorporate possibly a camera or other sensor for temperature of otherwise. The inspection element will typically incorporate a wireless link arrangement, or possibly incorporate a storage device for data such that the inspection element can be retrieved later with that data.

    • A system and method are provided for imaging in scattering media such as fog, water and biological tissues. Normally, such images suffer from poor visibility due to backscattering and signal attenuation. At least two images are taken of the scene using active widefield polarized illumination, with different states of a camera-mounted polarizer. The degree of polarization of backscatter is estimated in every point of the scene, leading to an estimation of the backscatter in every point of the scene. A portion or all of the value of backscatter can be deducted in each point of the scene resulting in an enhanced image with improved contrast and brightness range across the field of view.

    • An image acquisition part of an apparatus includes a light irradiation part, a line sensor, an angle change mechanism, and a conveying mechanism for conveying a web. The light irradiation part emits light of a wavelength having the property of passing through a thin film pattern of the web. An irradiation angle of the light from the light irradiation part and a detection angle at which the line sensor captures an image are always the same, and these angles are changed by the angle change mechanism. In the apparatus, a set angle at which the contrast in an image is increased is obtained in advance for the irradiation angle and the detection angle, and these angles are set to that set angle. This enables the line sensor to acquire a high-contrast image using a light source having a single wavelength, thus reducing the manufacturing cost of the apparatus.

    • An image display device includes an optical scanning part, a drive control part which supplies an electric current to lasers, and a light detecting part. The drive control part supplies an electric current to the lasers while changing a current value at two points or more when a scanning position of the light scanned by the optical scanning part is at a predetermined position outside an effective scanning range. Based on intensity of an inspection-use light detected by the light detecting part, current-light emitting quantity characteristics of the lasers are calculated, and electric currents supplied to the lasers are adjusted based on a result of the calculation.
