    • A dual-edge modulation controller including first and second ramp circuits, first and second comparators, an error amplifier and pulse control logic. The first ramp circuit provides a leading-edge ramp synchronous with a clock. The error amplifier compares a feedback signal with a reference and provides a compensation signal. The first comparator compares the leading-edge ramp with the compensation signal and asserts a set signal. The second ramp circuit provides a trailing-edge ramp that begins ramping when the set signal is asserted. The second comparator compares the trailing-edge ramp with the compensation signal and asserts a reset signal. The pulse control logic asserts a PWM signal when the set signal is asserted and de-asserts the PWM signal when the reset signal is asserted. The controller may control multiple phases with current balancing. The slew rate of the ramps may be adjusted based on the number of PWM signal asserted.

    • Power Factor Correction (PFC) “flyboost” cell, with a transformer having primary winding connected to input power and secondary winding connected to output rectifier, which has both functions of a flyback transformer and boost inductor. Combining the flyboost cell with DC/DC conversion cells, forms a single-stage PFC converters. Both cells share one main switch and one controller. Letting the flyboost cell operate at Discontinuous Conduction Mode, requires a simple control for high power factor. Through flyboost cell, part of output power is processed once by main switch, and is referred to as direct power transfer (DPT), which will significantly improve efficiency. The flyboost cell will automatically limit the DC bus voltage through flyboost transformer turn ratio. The converters are suitable for universal voltage applications.

    • An embodiment of a charger may include an input, at least one switch having a first node coupled to a reference voltage, a current sensor coupled between the input and a second node of the at least one switch, an output coupled to a third node of the at least one switch, and a charge controller coupled to the input to determine an input voltage, to the current sensor to determine an input current and to control inputs of the at least one switch. The at least one switch may be responsive to control signals supplied by the charge controller to the control inputs thereof to control voltage and current at the output of the charger. The charge controller may be responsive to the input voltage and the input current to produce the control signals in a manner that maximizes electrical power drawn at the input.

    • Systems, methods, and apparatus for improving steady state operation of a pulse width modulator during transient and soft start events are described herein. An apparatus can include a phase component configured to adaptively modify a pulse width of a first pulse width modulated (PWM) output signal based on a pulse width of a PWM input signal. Further, the apparatus can include a power stage component configured to source at least one of a voltage or a current to a load based on the first PWM output signal. In one example, the phase component can be configured to linearly extend the pulse width of the first PWM output signal based on the pulse width of the PWM input signal. In another example, the phase component can be configured to adaptively modify the pulse width of the first PWM output signal based on a predetermined maximum pulse width.

    • A method of providing threshold voltage monitoring and control in synchronous power converters is disclosed. The method establishes a threshold voltage level for at least one of an upper gate and a lower gate power switch in a synchronous power converter. The threshold voltage levels indicate switching delay times are present in the upper and lower gate power switches. The method detects body diode conduction levels for both the upper and lower gate power switches. When at least one of the detected body diode conduction levels exceed a prescribed body diode conduction level, the method adjusts the threshold voltage level for at least one of the upper and lower gate power switches to reduce a body diode conduction time for the at least one of the upper and lower gate power switches.
