    • There is determined an amount of available memory that is allocated for automatic repeat-request data. Then for each of a plurality of received data transmissions, an nth compression level is selected, in dependence at least in part on the amount of available memory, from among N possible compression levels for storing the respective received data transmission. In one specific embodiment each of the received data transmissions represents one HARQ process, and the nth compression level is selected from comparing an amount of memory needed to store the respective received data transmission and all other received data transmissions representing parallel HARQ processes as compressed according to the nth compression level against the determined amount of available memory. An algorithm iteratively checks the amount of memory needed for each of the N possible compression levels, from least compressed to most compressed in this specific embodiment.

    • A method for distributed carrier aggregation on unlicensed bands is described. The method includes tuning an antenna of a user equipment to a first carrier. The method includes transmitting, from an access point on a first carrier, information regarding a second carrier. The method also includes receiving, on the first carrier via the antenna, the information regarding the second carrier. The first carrier and the second carrier are in an unlicensed band. The method includes retuning the antenna to the second carrier and communicating data on the second carrier via the antenna. A maximum transmission power for the second carrier is based at least in part on a bandwidth of the second carrier. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

In the context of a method from the perspective of the user equipment, an indication regarding data to be transmitted is received and a scheduling request is caused to be provided via a control channel. The scheduling request is configured to indicate a size of the data to be transmitted. In response to a grant, data may be caused to be transmitted via allocated uplink resource blocks. In the context of a method from the perspective of a base station, a scheduling request including an indication of the requested size of the uplink grant is received via a control channel. The method may cause the grant to be provided to a user equipment and, in response, may receive data from the user equipment via allocated uplink resource blocks.
