Streams of the different polymers flow together in alternating arrangement and exit the die through a variable lip passage.

A thrust bearing to absorb the axial thrust applied to the screws comprises a thrust ring surrounding both drive shafts and supported in the housing by an axial roller bearing, a pair of coaxial butting rings inserted in and secured against rotation with respect to the thrust ring, off-set from one another in an axial direction and surrounding the two drive shafts and a respective shaft thrust ring for each drive shaft secured thereon against relative rotation. The two shaft thrust rings are off-set from one another in an axial direction with each shaft thrust ring bearing against a respective one of the butting rings.The surfaces of each thrust ring and associated butting ring facing towards one another are preferably of tapered construction to facilitate lubrication.

摘要： An extruder has a housing extending along an axis and formed with a downstream bore portion centered on the axis and upstream from this portion with a radially open recess having flat axially extending sides. An insert of generally square section is snugly receivable in this recess with its sides flatly engaging the sides of the recess. This insert is formed with a throughgoing passage forming an upstream bore portion and with a radially extending inlet open into this passage. The insert may be formed with axially extending and radially inwardly open grooves. This insert has at its ends centering formations and is releasably clamped within the housing so that a worm can extend axially through both of the bore portions which are coaxial when the insert is clamped in place. The insert is formed with a network of internal passages through which a coolant may be circulated.

摘要： Remoldable panels are produced by continuously plastifying and extruding an at least partially aggregated particulate mixture comprising about 40 to about 60% by weight of thermoplastic resin, preferably polypropylene, and about 60 to about 40% by weight of a particulate organic and preferably cellulosic filler such as wood particles, and rolling the web of extruded material prior to its solidification. The extruded and rolled web is cut to panels which can be used, for example, in the production of shaped articles such as dash boards or other components of automotive vehicles, furniture or parts thereof and the like, by pressing at elevated temperature or by other remolding methods conventionally used in the art of processing thermoplastic materials. Alternatively, the panels can be used for purposes where wood panels or ply-wood are normally employed.

The mixing apparatus includes a tubular, rotatably mounted horizontal container, on the inner surface of which mixing instruments or tools are attached. An inlet and outlet for the material to be mixed are respectively located near the ends of the container. A shaft is rotatably arranged about the axis of the container and extends at least over the entire length of the container. Mixing instruments are likewise attached to the shaft. The mixing instruments, in the region between the inlet and outlet, comprise a plurality of sections of single or multi-threaded worms which extend in the radial direction from the shaft to the inner surface of the container. These sections are adjacent to and spaced from one another, and are alternately mounted to the shaft and to the inner surface of the container. The shaft is longitudinally displaceable with regard to the container, and the container and shaft may be rotated in opposite directions to one another.

摘要： A drive unit for use with extrusion devices having counter-rotating double screws with parallel axes overcomes problems with loading of the bearings of such units.The drive unit has an integral drive and output shaft with a pinion mounted on the output shaft. Two cog wheels or gears mesh with the pinion on opposite sides thereof and one of the cog wheels is mounted on a second output shaft. The other cog wheel acts as an intermediate gear wheel and both cog wheels mesh with an internally toothed hollow gear wheel or ring gear. By making the diameter of the intermediate gear wheel greater than the diameter of the pinion, conventional bearings can be used.
