    • Restoration of a gas-insulated type circuit breaker having a puffer assembly to "contact-closed" condition is achieved in a positive and reliable manner by providing the puffer cylinder with one or more apertures that relieve the back-pressure created by the rapid expansion of the puffer chamber during the contact-closing stroke of the arc-interrupter unit. The pressure-relieving aperture or apertures are so shaped and located that they are automatically opened and closed at the proper times by the movement of the puffer cylinder and movable contact relative to the stationary piston component. The gas-compression and puffer functions during the contact-opening operation and subsequent relief of the back-pressure condition during the contact-closing operation of the circuit breaker are thus provided without the need of check valves heretofore employed in the piston head to control the flow of the insulating gas into and out of the puffer chamber when the breaker is actuated through a full cycle of operations.

    • An autopneumatic compressed gas switch comprises a gas cylinder with a piston which is cooperable with the cylinder and with one of them being movable relative to the other with changes of gas pressure. The stationary tubular part having one wall with an axially extending slot is disposed adjacent the cylinder and piston combination. A counter contact is disposed in the stationary tubular part and it has a radial projection which extends through the slot of the stationary part. An insulating bushing is connected to the movable one of the piston and cylinder set and is movable therewith. The insulating bushing carries a contact piece which is engageable with the counter contact. A releasable latch is connected between the bushing which has the contact piece and the counter contact so that the two parts move together. The spring is provided between the first projection of the counter contact and the stationary tubular part in a spring system arranged to exert a biasing force during contact breaking to release the latch which effects the connection between the bushing and the counter contact, and to move the contact until the projection thereof goes to the end of the slot.

    • A compressed-gas switch has a stationary and a movable switching part. At the movable switching part a nozzle of insulating material and an annular element consisting of insulating material are provided. The nozzle of insulating material and the annular element delimit an outer inlet duct and an annular element and a burn-off contact of the movable switching part delimit an inner inlet duct. The inlet ducts are connected to a compression space, filled with quenching gas, of a piston-cylinder device which can be actuated by the movable switching part. During a switching-off process the quenching gas, which is under high pressure in the compression space, is conducted by the inner and outer ducts, into the switching path. This switch is now to be developed further in such a way that both short-circuit currents at a distance and those at the terminals can be switched off with high reliability. This is achieved by making the minimum flow cross-section of the outer inlet duct smaller than the minimum flow cross-section of the inner inlet duct and by attaching at the narrowest point of the annular element a conductive ring with the clear width of the conductive ring smaller than the clear width of the annular element.
