    • A method for composing and performing music on an electronic instrument are provided. The method provides a technique in which individual chord progression chords can be triggered in real-time, while simultaneously generating the individual notes of the chord, and/or possible scale and non-scale notes to play along with the chord, and making them available for playing in separate fixed-locations on the instrument. The method of composition involves the designation of a chord progression section on the instrument, then assigning chords or individual chord notes to this chord progression section according to a song key's defined customary scale or customary scale equivalent song keys and scales. Further, as each chord is played in the chord progression section, the individual notes of the currently triggered chords are generated and simultaneously made available for playing in a separate fixed location on the instrument. Fundamental and alternate (fifth) notes of each chord may be generated and made available in separate fixed locations for composing purposes. Possible scale and non-scale notes, to play along with the currently triggered chord, can also be generated and simultaneously made available for playing in separate fixed locations on the instrument. Finally, a method of storing all composition data in memory, or on a storage device, in which all of this composition sequenced data can later be retrieved and performed by the user from a fixed location on the instrument, and on a reduced number of input controllers or keys.

    • A rotary dynamoelectric machine having a generally annular polyphase stator with a predetermined number of wound poles and an induction rotor. The rotor has a cylindrical laminated ferromagnetic core positioned within the stator for rotation about a central axis thereof when the stator is energized by an a.c. power source. The rotor is of squirrel-cage construction having a plurality of electrically conductive bars each extending the length of the core adjacent the cylindrical surface thereof. Conductive end rings at the ends of the rotor are electrically connected to the ends of the bars at the respective ends of the core. The end rings have a plurality of radial slots therethrough thereby forming a plurality of spaced arcuate ring segments whereby the rotor has a relatively high resistance, e.g., at least three times that of such a squirrel-cage rotor with unsegmented end rings. The stator windings may be interconnected with a source of single-phase a.c. power source to permit the machine to be used as a self-starting rotary phase converter for supplying three-phase power to a load or they may be connected to a single or polyphase a.c. power source to provide a motor having low inrush current and high starting torque.

    • A multiphase to single phase electrical energy converter wherein the frequency is converted from a relatively high frequency, in the order of 1,000 hertz, to a relatively low frequency, as for example, normal household frequency of 60 hertz. A three-phase alternator is driven by an internal combustion engine and in one form of the invention the output of the alternator is fed to a controllable, full-wave bridge circuit and finally to an inverter. The controllable bridge circuit is controlled by a resolver, the resolver, alternator rotor and internal combustion engine all operating at the same rotary speed. In the one form the resolver is utilized to control the conduction of a plurality of controlled semiconductor devices interconnected between the output windings of the alternator and the invertor to control the delivery of energy from the alternator to the inverter. In another form the controlled semiconductor devices are replaced by a modified resolver. In accomplishing the control, the controlled rectifiers or modified resolver are rendered conductive to provide an average current or power to the inverter which increases and decreases in a unipolar sinusoidal form at a frequency which is twice the desired output frequency. The bridge circuit then provides an output to an inverter device which is rotating at one-half the speed of the resolver, the inverter being utilized to invert every other cycle of the output from the resolver. Thus, the power from the inverter will take the form of an alternating sinusoid waveform insofar as the power output is concerned at 60 hertz.
