摘要： Process of preparing bis-chloromethyl tetrachlorobenzene of the formula ##STR1## In a first stage xylene is contacted with chlorine for formation of tetrachloroxylene, in the presence of iron chloride catalyst. In a second stage the tetrachloroxylene is contacted with chlorine for formation of (I), in the presence of radical catalyst. According to the invention, the second stage is performed in the presence of iron chloride catalyst from the first stage and in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine for complexing with the iron chloride catalyst. Thereby the iron chloride catalyst does not interfere with the second stage.

摘要： A process for arylating an olefinic compound by addition of an aryl group to a double bond of said olefinic compound consisting in diazotizing an arylamine in an aqueous acidic solution comprising a lower alkanoic acid to form a solution of an aryldiazonium salt and reacting said aryldiazonium salt solution with an olefinic compound in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a copper halide. The amount of alkanoic acid is about 15 to 37% by volume of the total solvents used. The alkanoic acid is preferably acetic acid and the copper halide cuprous chloride.

摘要： An improved process for the production of aromatic trifluoromethyl compounds of the benzene series by conversion of the corresponding trichloromethyl compound with hydrogen fluoride. The aromatic trichloromethyl compound of the benzene series is converted in the presence of antimony pentachloride, which is a catalyst, in a quantity, related to the quantity of the trichloromethyl compound, of 200 to 700 ppm per trichloromethyl group in the trichloromethyl compound, with a stoichiometric quantity, or at most a 2 percent excess, of hydrogen fluoride. The conversion is conducted at a pressure of 20 to 45 atm., at a temperature of 60.degree. to 75.degree. C. and with intermixing which is characterized by a Reynolds number between 50,000 and 80,000. Yields of around 98 percent are achieved.
