    • A disconnect switch is provided for a metal-clad, pressurized-gas insulated, high-voltage switchgear installation. The disconnect switch includes:first and second contact assemblies which have a common longitudinal axis and are switchable between an open position and a closed position. An isolating tube is positioned inside one of the first contact assemblies and is movable therein along the axis during a switching operation between an open position at which the contact element is completely within the said one contact assembly and a closed position at which the said contact element engages the other contact assembly. First and second resistors are positioned within the isolating tube and are movable along the axis inside the isolating tube during switching toward and from the other of the contact assemblies.The disconnect switch for a metal-clad, pressurized-gas insulated, high-voltage switchgear installation discourages generating of high frequency oscillations and arcing to the metal of the encapsulation during switching. The disconnect switch uses two resistors of equal size which move inside an isolating tube to make electrical contact prior to the main contacts and to break electrical contact after the main contacts. In this manner, the arc is encouraged to exist between the two resistors inside the isolating tube.

    • A vacuum load break switch uses a vacuum interrupter for the load break device together with a series connected visible disconnect which is interlocked with the vacuum interrupter mechanism. Further, the visible disconnect is grounded in the fully opened switch position. A manual switch operator is provided together with interconnect means interconnecting the manual switch operator to both the visible disconnect switch means and the vacuum interrupter in a manner such that in a switch closing operation of the manual switch operator the visible disconnect switch means closes before the vacuum interrupter means and in an opening operation the vacuum interrupter means opens before the visible disconnect switch means. Additionally, an additional solenoid operated switch operator is coupled to the interconnect means for opening the vacuum interrupter through solenoid action.

    • A disconnect switch for use in a metal-encapsulated high-voltage switching installation, wherein the switch includes a movable switching pin, a mating contact axially associated therewith, and a cylindrical member arranged in surrounding spaced relationship to the mating contact.     • A safety locking switch that can connect a selected wire to a grounded plate, on which the switch is mounted, has a metallic housing, a key operated lock mounted in the housing, an insulator affixed to the housing and an electrical lead extending through the insulator into the housing. In the locked position, the lock is in contact with both the electrical lead and the housing thereby grounding the selected wire connected to the lead. When unlocked by the key, the lock moves away from the end of the lead within the housing thereby open circuiting the path between the grounded plate and the selected wire.

    • Main contact and interrupter contact operating rods of opposed current interrupters are sequentially moved by a spring loaded operating mechanism to open the main contacts and interrupting contacts of the interrupter switches. Rotation of an input shaft trips a first overcenter toggle linkage by the engagement of a cam on a drive lever operably connected to the shaft. Tripping of the first overcenter toggle linkage allows the springs to rapidly move a main rod arm assembly connected to the main contact operating rods to open the main contacts. Rotation of the main rod arm assembly trips a second overcenter toggle linkage connected to a fast rod arm assembly permitting springs to rotate the fast rod arm assembly connected to the interrupter contact rods to open the interrupting contacts in sequence. Continued rotation of the shaft in the same direction causes abutments on the drive lever to engage the main rod arm assembly and the fast rod arm assembly to recock the mechanism for subsequent operation. The mechanism can also be tripped by an auxiliary mechanism independent of the rotation of the shaft. An indicator operably connected to the main contact rods provides a visible indication of the position of the main contact rods thereby indicating the position of the contacts. Also, an alignment means is provided for permitting angular alignment between the rotatable supporting insulator and the input shaft.
