    • Blocks of a frame of a video stream can be encoded using lossless inter-frame prediction encoding. The compression ratio of lossless inter-frame encoding can be improved by first examining the magnitude of a motion vector used to perform inter-frame prediction. If the magnitude of the motion vector is small, the residual generated by the inter-prediction can be entropy coded and included in the encoded bitstream. If the magnitude of the motion vector is greater than a threshold, the residual can be encoded using lossy encoding and then decoded and subtracted from the original residual. The resulting difference residual is encoded using lossless encoding and included in the output bitstream along with the lossy encoded residual, permitting the block to be decoded with no loss at a decoder.

    • In a motion vector generation apparatus 1 according to the present invention, when motion vectors are sequentially generated for a plurality of images, a target point is determined at a sub-pixel level in any of the plurality of images, a corresponding point corresponding to the target point is searched at the sub-pixel level in another image different from this image, and a motion vector is calculated on the basis of the target point and the corresponding point. Then, the corresponding point is defined as a new target point, and the aforementioned process is repeated to sequentially generate the motion vectors. Thus, the motion vector generation apparatus 1 of the present invention can compute consecutive motion vectors by performing correspondence search at the sub-pixel level in the plurality of images.

    • A method and apparatus for processing a video signal using inter-viewpoint prediction are disclosed. The video signal processing method includes acquiring a type of a current block, acquiring a depth inter-view prediction flag according to the current block type, acquiring color information of a reference block corresponding to the current block when the current block is encoded using depth inter-view prediction according to the depth inter-view prediction flag, and predicting color information of the current block using the color information of the reference block. The video signal processing method performs inter-viewpoint prediction using depth information, such that a motion vector of a macroblock can be induced from a decoder using such depth information. Therefore, a motion vector of the macroblock is not separately coded. In addition, the video signal processing method uses a flag that indicates whether to perform inter-viewpoint prediction using depth information.
