    • The invention relates to a radiation heater for air/gas admixtures which includes a double-wall housing of a generally trapezoidal transverse cross-section defined by a top wall and downwardly convering side walls. The housing includes a burner plate between a mixing chamber and a radiation grid, and the mixing chamber is fed the air/fuel admixture from an injector nozzle, a mixing tube, a preheated intermediate chamber, and a transition zone or chamber. The injector nozzle and the mixing tube are located at the lower edge of the housing side wall(s) to thereby provide an intermediate chamber extending essentially the length of the side wall(s) along the exterior of which the hot waste gases flow or brush to preheat the fresh admixture of air and fuel in the intermediate chamber thereby effecting reliable operation at low gas pressures and low manufacturing and repair costs.

    • A cooking unit has a ceramic cooking surface, a gas burner underneath the surface, a gas supply including a solenoid valve for feeding a combustible gas to the burner, and an electric igniter juxtaposed with the burner and electrically energizable to ignite the combustible gas issuing from the burner. An electricity supply is connected to the igniter and to the gas supply for electrically energizing the igniter whenever the valve is open and supplying gas to the burner. In addition an electronic controller connected to the valve and to the electric supply monitors current consumption of the igniter and closes the valve when the current consumption of the igniter indicates same is malfunctioning. The controller includes a digital circuit that is also typically operated by the user of the cooker to turn the burners on and off and control their temperatures and an analog circuit connected parallel to each other. At least one of these circuits controls opening and closing of the valve. One of these arrangements is provided with a temperature display.

Burner body can be casting, with sheet metal addition to form a baffle and air-seal and to grip matrix edges. Combustion mixture plenum can have moveable partition assembly separating it from air-seals, to adjust portion of matrix at which incandescence is generated. Metal screen can be stretched in front of incandescent surface to assist with low-temperature operation. Thermal insulation on external portions of burner body can also be held in place with screening. Large size matrix can have central support fitted in joint between matrix segments, and secured to back of burner body. Air-seal can be provided by narrow curtain of air extending around internal faces of burner body. Annealing lehr is desirably provided with gas-fired infra-red irradiation, and can have heat losses reduced by diminishing amount of metal used as in a conveyor to more workpieces through.

    • An improved, portable, auxiliary radiant chimney effect heater or reradiator including an inverted, conical chimney placed over and heated to the infrared spectrum by an open flame such as that provided by the burner of an otherwise conventional cooking stove. A semi-parabolic reflector surrounds the chimney and the chimney is located at the approximate focal point of the reflector. The invention functions as a chimney, by drawing combustion by-products into the chimney whereupon the chimney is heated and consumes the by-products, particularly noxious fumes and water vapor. The reflector may be provided with a casing and a handle to ease portability of the heater. For the sake of safety, forward, semi-circular guard bars and a rear, guard plate may be provided.

    • A radiant for use with a gas heater embodies a pair of upwardly converging front and rear walls formed of aluminum silicate. Connector members also formed of a fibrous aluminum silicate refractory board extend between the walls to retain their lower end portions in spaced relation to each other. Perforations are provided in the front wall for emitting radiant heat and an upper vent opening is provided in the rear wall. A convexly curved lower end portion is provided on the rear wall for imparting rotary motion to the burning gases as they move upwardly between the walls.
