摘要： A porous membrane made from a poly(phenylene ether) copolymer has at least one of: a molecular weight cut off of less than 40 kilodaltons or a surface pore size of 0.001 to 0.1 micrometers. The porous membrane is made by dissolving the poly(phenylene ether) copolymer in a water-miscible polar aprotic solvent to form a porous membrane-forming composition; and phase-inverting the porous asymmetric membrane forming-composition in a first non-solvent composition to form the porous mem-brane. The porous membrane can be in the form of a sheet or a hollow fiber, and can be fabricated into separation modules.

The filaments are spread apart in the casting head, for example by forcing the yarns or tows around a bend or through a narrow gap in the casting head. The filaments are adapted to bond to the membrane dope or the membrane wall. A reinforced hollow fiber membrane comprises a plurality of filaments individually surrounded by, and bonded to, the membrane wall.

The methods typically provide a reinforcing structure that includes filaments extending around the circumference of the membrane but without the filaments being part of a braided or woven structure. Some of the reinforcing structures also include longitudinal filaments. The methods and devices can be used to make a supporting structure in line with membrane formation steps, and also allow for a reinforced membrane to be produced that has a ratio of inside-to-outside diameters of 0.5 or more.

摘要： A filtering membrane has a supporting structure comprising filaments and is coated with a dope to produce a polymeric membrane layer. Some or all of the filaments comprise a second polymer that is soluble or swellable in a solvent of the dope. The supporting structure may be braided with yarns. One or more yarns may comprise filaments comprising the second polymer. In one example, a braided tubular support is coated with a dope based on PVDF in NMP. Some or all of the yarns of the braid are made of bi-component core-sheath PET-PVDF filaments. With as few as 4% of the yarns in the braid made of the bicomponent filaments, peel strength and pull force of the membrane is improved relative to a braid made entirely of PET yarns. In experimental examples, unpeelable composite membranes were produced. The membrane may be used, for example, for water or wastewater filtration applications.
