    • A safety device for preventing overpressures in low pressure reservoirs receiving compressed gas through a feedline connected to a high pressure source is disclosed including a spherical stopcock in the feedline. A cylinder is provided in pressure communication with the low pressure reservoir with a spring-biased piston arranged within the cylinder. Connected to the piston and projecting from the cylinder is a toothed rack having teeth which intermesh with teeth of a rotatable, toothed segment connected to the stopcock. Motion of the piston, in response to pressure changes in the low pressure reservoir, causes the toothed rack to open or close the stopcock. A hole in the wall of the cylinder allows excess compressed air or gas to escape to the atmosphere in the event that the maximum allowable pressure within the low pressure reservoir is exceeded.

    • Gas insulated substation system fully adaptable for orderly expansion for increasing the interrupting rating of an installation. A plurality of basic modular units are readily connected in series relationship in a manner to promote an efficient utilization of space and in which arrangement the servicing of each individual unit does not require any additional space over that which is required by a single unit. The operation of the interrupting contacts and blast valve for all units of a single phase of the system is accomplished by means of a single operator. The arrangement provides the required spacing between external bushings of the interrupter units in the system and between the bushings of the individual units.

Additional features include a blast-valve means, disposed in close proximity to the stationary contact structure, and the partial storage of high-pressure gas within the hollow stud of the terminal bushing to prevent liquefaction of a liquefiable gas under low-ambient temperature conditions. Another feature of the invention includes a rotating operating rod for low inertia, and the pilot-valve operation of the blastvalve mechanism by a cam interconnection between the pilot-rod linkage and the rotating operating tube.
