    • A method of initiating a communication from a mobile communication device includes receiving a plurality of spoken letters corresponding to a spelling of at least a portion of a contact name and identifying a contact and associated contact information from a database associated with a mobile communication device in response to the spoken letters. A communication to the contact is initiated from the mobile communication device using the associated contact information. A method of presenting voicemail to a user establishes communication with a mobile communication device. A first voicemail box is checked for messages, the first voicemail box being associated with the mobile communication device. A second voicemail box is checked for messages, the second voicemail box being associated with a second communication device. At least one voicemail message received from at least one of the first and second voicemail boxes is presented to a user via a single interface.

    • A system and method are provided for collecting data from many vehicles. A vehicle unit with several connectivity options is installed in each vehicle. Each vehicle unit transmits driving characteristic information to a server which records all of the data it receives. In addition, the server is able to interact with the vehicle unit to provide information. A user then requests a particular report or statistic from the server. The server then takes the driving characteristic information from each vehicle including, but not limited to: emissions information, a global navigation satellite system, vehicle brand, geographic area, time of day, crashes, average speed, speed variances, accelerations, acceleration variation, sudden acceleration frequency, sudden deceleration frequency, and car location, and compiles it into data. The server then provides reports and statistics and transmits the report or statistic to the user requesting it.

    • An occupant weight sensing system includes a loading rod, which replaces a seat height adjuster pivot bolt and extends away from a seat height adjuster link. A sensing element is mounted at the opposing end of the loading rod. When force is applied the loading rod acts as a cantilever to transfer radial force to the sensing element. A plurality of strain gages are arranged down the center of the sensing element to provide a measurement of strain on the sensing element. The loading rod flexes to transfer any excessive force to a seat bracket. The sensing element has a low sensitivity to axial forces to avoid requiring additional mechanical components to protect the sensing element.
