    • An encapsulated medium voltage vacuum circuit interrupter includes a line terminal, a load terminal, a vacuum interrupter, an operating mechanism and an elongated, insulated, generally cylindrical encapsulating housing. The vacuum interrupter includes a vacuum envelope containing a fixed contact assembly and a movable contact assembly movable between a closed circuit position in electrical communication with the fixed contact assembly and an open circuit position spaced apart from the fixed contact assembly. The fixed contact assembly is electrically interconnected with the line terminal. A flexible conductor electrically connects the movable contact assembly with the load terminal. The operating mechanism moves the movable contact assembly between the closed circuit position and the open circuit position. The housing includes a first end supporting the line terminal and an opposite second end supporting the load terminal. The housing encloses the vacuum interrupter, the flexible conductor and the operating mechanism.

    • An isolating switch of a metalclad installation having an earthed metal enclosure is filled with a high dielectric strength gas. The isolation gap "d" separating the stationary contact from the movable sliding pin is surrounded by an annular electrode fitted between this isolation gap "d" and the enclosure. The annular electrode extends over the whole length of the isolation gap "d" and is electrically connected to the stationary contact to prevent any migration of the arc drawn between the contacts towards the earthed enclosure. The metal enclosure is advantageously spherical in shape, the contacts being disposed appreciably in the center of the sphere.

    • A contact arrangement is disclosed for a high voltage power circuit breaker wherein compressed gas is blown through the arc developed when the breaker is switched. The contact arrangement includes at least two contact pieces having respective hollow interiors for accommodating the discharge of the gas blown through the arc. Arcing electrodes between which the arc is drawn when the breaker is switched to the open position are electrically and mechanically joined to the contact pieces respectively. Each arcing electrode and the corresponding contact piece conjointly define an interface whereat the arc electrode is joined to the electrode piece. An electrically conductive supplement is contained in the electrodes in the region thereof next to the interface. The supplement comprises at least one metal and the arcing electrodes are made of carbon bodies and have a nozzle-like configuration. With the contact arrangement of the invention, increased mechanical strength is imparted to the graphite electrode and large differences in conductivity at the interface are obviated.
