    • A method for determining the dissociation constant (Kd) by plotting resonance frequency shift as a function of time for various target analyte concentrations. From this graph, the fraction of saturation, i.e. equilibrium fraction of bound binding sites out of all available binding sites on the sensor surface may be estimated by taking the ratio of the equilibrium resonance frequency shift at a selected concentration to the equilibrium frequency shift of the sensor. The dissociation constant is the inverse slope of the line produced by graphing the fraction of saturation as a function of concentration. This method is particularly useful for the study of protein-protein and protein-mRNA interactions.

    • In one embodiment, a cutting guide has a base with a flat lower surface for resting the cutting guide on an upper surface of a work piece. Extending down from the front of the base is an abutment member that aligns the base with a front surface of the work piece. A fence is installed on the upper surface of one side of the base to guide a cutting instrument across the work piece. A kick-up preventer extends from the top of the fence away from the base to prevent the cutting instrument from kicking-up during operation. On the other side of the base, a tape measure is mounted on the upper surface such that the tape extends away from the fence, and a measurement-securing assembly is mounted in front of the tape measure to secure the tape measure at a desired measurement.

    • In one embodiment, a turbo equalizer has a channel detector that receives equalized samples and generates channel soft-output values. An LDPC decoder attempts to decode the channel soft-output values to recover an LDPC-encoded codeword. If the decoder converges on a trapping set, then an adjustment block selects one or more of the equalized samples based on one or more specified conditions and adjusts the selected equalized samples. Selection may be performed by identifying the locations of unsatisfied check nodes of the last local decoder iteration and selecting the equalized samples that correspond to bit nodes of the LDPC-encoded codeword that are connected to the unsatisfied check nodes. Adjustment of the equalized samples may be performed using any combination of scaling, offsetting, and saturation. Channel detection is then performed using the adjusted equalized samples to generate an updated set of channel soft-output values, which are subsequently decoded by the decoder.

    • This invention relates generally to footwear with a shoe sole, including at least one insertable midsole orthotic. The insertable midsole orthotic is removably inserted within the shoe upper, the sides of which hold it in position. The shoe sole includes a concavely rounded side or underneath portion, which may be formed in part by the insertable midsole orthotic. The insertable midsole orthotic may extend the length of the shoe sole or may form only a part of the shoe sole and can incorporate cushioning or structural compartments or components. The insertable midsole orthotic permits replacement of midsole material which has degraded or has worn out in order to maintain optimal characteristics of the shoe sole and allows customization for the individual wearer to provide tailored cushioning or support characteristics for the purpose of orthopedic, podiatric, corrective, prescriptive, therapeutic and/or prosthetic purposes.
