    • A system and method for configuring authentication of a mobile communications device entail detecting user context and device context factors and determining whether a current authentication mode is impractical or unfeasible in view of such factors. User context information of interest includes any indication that the user is driving or in a meeting for example. Context factors of interest include for example such factors as light, noise, or user activities such as driving. Based on this user context and device context, if the currently set authentication mode is impractical or unfeasible, then the device may select an available alternative authentication mode and reconfigure the device for that mode.

    • Systems and methods that reproduce surround sound effects from an audio source are described. Wireless communication devices form a wireless network in which music, for example, can be played on the speakers of the wireless communication devices to reproduce surround sound effects from a selected audio source. As the wireless communication devices roam with respect to each other or with respect to a focal point or listening position of the wireless network, the wireless network adjusts how the audio source is played at each speaker of the respective wireless communication device to maintain or to enhance the reproduction of surround sound effects from the audio source.

    • There is described an image processing method in which a scene is repeatedly imaged to form a series of input images. For at least a subset of the input images, a color calibration procedure is conducted which populates a foreground color histogram with the frequency of occurrence of color values in a stencil area of the input image, and populates a background color histogram with the frequency of occurrence of color values outside of the stencil portion of the input image. For at least a subset of the input images, a color replacement procedure is conducted which updates the stencil area based on a determination, from the color values of pixels within the input image, of likelihood values representing the likelihood of pixels belonging to an image area of interest, the likelihood value for each color value being determined from a combination of the foreground and background color histograms, replaces the original color values of pixels within the updated stencil area of the input image with replacement color values, and displays the image on which color replacement processing has been conducted. In this way, a stencil area is determined based on foreground/background histogramming, and used both to define an area to which color replacement processing is to be conducted, and also an area for use in further populating the color histograms to calibrate the color replacement processing.

    • Methods and systems are presented for prefetching music for devices. The disclosed method includes detecting an access to a music library through a device. The music library is associated with a user music account and is managed in cloud music storage. The disclose method further includes monitoring use activities for the user music account and the use activities of selected songs in the music library are adjustable for relevance based on assigned weightings. One or more songs from the music library that satisfy a prefetching constraint based on the monitored use activities are identified. The songs that satisfy the prefetching constraint are tagged for transferring to the device. The tagged songs are transferred to the device without receiving a user initiated request for the tagged songs.

A media category preference of the user may be determined, based on the media consumption history. The media category preference may include a popularity indication for each of a plurality of media categories of media items in the media consumption history. Search results provided in response to a search query by the user and/or media recommendations prepared for the user may be scored based on the media category preference.
