    • Actuators and valve-actuator combinations are disclosed which require low power for actuation, and which are particularly suitable for use to control a valve associated with a pipeline. Such an actuator (20) comprises a thrust member (26) moveable between two end of travel positions, an annular rotor having magnetic poles, an annular magnetisable stator having at least one winding and poles with which the rotor poles are aligned in each of a plurality of rotational positions of the rotor relative to the stator, and a drive connection between the rotor and the thrust member which is adapted to convert rotational movement of the rotor into linear movement of the thrust member. The actuator is able to hold its position using minimal energy, and may be located within or around an associated pipe.

    • A hand-operated pressure regulating valve for compressed air guns includes a basic valve body with a nozzle passage, threads for connection to a compressed air gun and a nozzle body, a pressure regulating unit and an actuating ring. The regulating unit is held by the ring, with a securing ring, in a bore of the basic valve body. The nozzle passage can be bridged and closed within the bore by a nozzle passage piece. The cross section of the nozzle passage can be reduced and increased by rotation of the ring and displacement of the regulating unit and the passage piece. The regulating unit has a basic body with the passage piece, a spring pin and a compression spring and, in the installed state, the pin projects through the spring out of the basic body and the bore for radial movement transversely and, by rotation of the actuating ring, latches in succession into wells in an inner surface of the actuating ring.

    • A fluid pressure regulator is provided having a housing with an inlet and outlet for fluid, a valve located movably inside the housing and provided with a fluid transport member to allow passage of fluid from the inlet to the outlet. The regulator also has a pressure setting member and a space defined by one end of the valve and an end wall of the housing. The valve is moveable relative to the housing in response to a change in pressure within the space between a first position which at least partially aligns the fluid transport member with each of the inlet and the outlet and a second position in which there is no alignment of the fluid transport member with at least one of the inlet and the outlet. A passage is provided in open communication with the space and one of the inlet, the outlet, and the transport member. Methods of using the pressure regulator are also provided.

    • A gate valve for controlling fluid flow through a housing is disclosed. The gate valve includes a frusto-conical shaped internal cavity having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet formed in the wall thereof. Fluid flow through the cavity (from inlet to outlet) is transverse to the direction of the taper of the frusto-conical cavity. A gate including a frusto-conical portion is disposed within the housing. The frusto-conical portion of the gate may be moved transversely through the fluid flow passing from the internal cavity inlet to the outlet. The frusto-conical portion of the gate is adapted to seat against the frusto-conical shaped internal cavity to block fluid flow there through. The gate does not contact the seat until the point at which all fluid flow is shut off. This reduces wear on the gate and the seat and promotes laminar flow through the valve during the process of closing the valve.
