    • A dielectric filter includes a plurality of resonators provided in a dielectric block in parallel to each other. Each resonator is formed through providing an inner conductor on a wall surface of a through-hole extending between first and second end surfaces of the block. An outer conductor is provided on end and side surfaces of the block except for the first end surface. The inner conductor and the outer conductor are connected together so that the second end surface serves as a short circuit end surface, and the first end surface serves as an open end surface. A pair of input-output terminals are provided on a side surface of the block so that the input-output terminals are located adjacent to the open end surface at respective positions corresponding to open ends of two of the resonators. Insulating sections on the side surface isolate corresponding input-output terminals from the outer conductor formed on the side surface of the block. A section without a conductor thereon is used in controlling filter characteristics. This section is provided on the side surface between the input-output terminals and extends for a predetermined distance along the insulating sections from an edge between the side surface and the open end surface.

    • An adjustable coupling arrangement for aperture coupled cavity filters. According to the invention, in an electric wall (24) separating two cavities to be coupled in a bandpass filter, provide a cruciform iris (26) comprising a central aperture (27) having four slits (28,29,30, 31) extending outwardly therefrom. In each slit there is arranged a captive movable rectangular metal slug (36,37,38,39) whose position along the slit's length can be manipulated by a tool that engages the slug when the tool is introduced into a radial passageway (32,33,34 35) that connects the slit with an access hole in the filter's housing. When desired coupling parameters are achieved by manipulating each of the slugs to effectively change the electrical length of the slits, each slug is locked in position by a respective associated locking means actuated by the tool. Because a significant part of the tool is within a passageway during manipulation, the filter's characteristics are not disturbed by its presence.

    • A multilayer dielectric evanescent mode waveguide bandpass filter with resonators utilizing via hole technology is capable of achieving very narrow bandwidths with minimal insertion loss and high selectivity at microwave frequencies is provided. The resonators may also be used as feed posts. A typical implementation of this filter is fabricated with soft substrate multilayer dielectrics with high dielectric constant ceramics. This filter typically takes up less space than other filters presently available. A typical implementation operates at a center frequency of 1 GHz, although other center frequencies, such as approximately 0.5 GHz to approximately 60 GHz, are achievable. The perimeter of the filter may be defined by via holes or plated slots.
