In one embodiment, the invention relates to a slider configured to reduce condensation along an air bearing surface in an energy assisted magnetic recording system, the slider including an air bearing surface (ABS), a write transducer including a portion disposed at the ABS, a hot spot region disposed along the ABS, where the hot spot region includes the portion of the write transducer at the ABS, and a trench surrounding the hot spot region.

The first RTD is proximate an air bearing surface (ABS) of the slider. The HDD also includes a second RTD configured to detect at least one temperature correlated to a fly-height of the slider. The second RTD is not required to be proximate the ABS of the slider. HDD also includes a read/write integrated circuit (IC) configured to determine the fly-height of the slider based on detection of temperatures by the first RTD and the second RTD.

The disk drive further comprises a fly height actuator operable to adjust a fly height of the head. A fly height measurement (FHM) is generated for the head, and a fly height error (FHE) is generated as a difference between the FHM and a target fly height. A comb filter is used to generate fly height compensation values in response to the FHE, and a fly height control signal is generated in response to the FHE and the fly height compensation values, wherein the fly height control signal is applied to the fly height actuator.

摘要： In a method of head-disk contact detection in a hard disk drive, a Radio Frequency (RF) carrier signal is injected into a slider which is flying above a surface of a disk in a hard disk drive. A modulated version of the RF carrier signal is received from the slider. The modulated version of the RF carrier signal is demodulated to achieve a demodulated signal. A signal spectrum of a range of frequencies in the demodulated signal is monitored for activity indicative of a contact between a head of the slider and the surface of the disk. An occurrence of the contact is determined based upon an occurrence of the activity.

摘要： A compliant, flexible air bearing slider (ABS) reduces the contact forces between the slider and disk, thereby reducing excessive burnishing and wear and increasing the reliability of the slider. According to an embodiment, an ABS has at least one “compliance-enhancing feature” which reduces the bending mode vibration frequency of the slider. By causing the slider to flex, and bringing the bending mode vibration frequency closer to the pitch 2 eigenmode frequency, coupling of the different vibration modes can be obtained. Thus, the different vibration modes can effectively dampen each other and result in reduced contact forces between the slider and disk.

摘要： A method and system for determining localized contact potential voltages and localized clearance data between a slider body and a hard disk of a hard disk drive. In embodiments of the present invention, a plurality of direct current (DC) pulses are applied between said slider body and a discreet location of the hard disk. In embodiments of the present invention, the discreet location of the hard disk comprises a portion of a data track of the hard disk. In embodiments of the present invention, a variation in the clearance of the slider body is determined when a given voltage is applied. Furthermore, a first set of DC pulses has a positive/negative bias while a second set of DC pulses has a negative/positive bias. The voltage of the sets of DC pulses is increased until a contact between the slider body and the hard disk is detected.

A filter, electrically coupled with the assembly, is used to filter a velocity signal to achieve a vibration signal. A phase-shifter, electrically coupled with the filter, shifts the phase of the vibration signal to achieve a phase-shifted vibration signal. An amplifier, electrically coupled with the phase-shifter, adjusts the amplitude of the phase-shifted vibration signal to achieve an amplitude adjusted vibration signal. An electrical coupler couples the amplitude adjusted vibration signal with the slider for actively damping air bearing vibrations in the slider.
