    • A Calibration Coupling Unit, CCU, and a method therein for enabling calibration of a Base Station are provided. The CCU comprises an Antenna Interface Standards Group, AISG, interface and the CCU is connected to the Base Station by means of radio branch feeder cables carrying uplink and downlink transmissions to/from the Base Station. The Base Station comprises a Radio Unit, RU, and a Base Band Unit, BBU, and the CCU is further connectable to an antenna array comprising antenna elements. The method in the CCU comprises receiving (110) at least one calibration signal from the RU on at least one radio branch feeder cable of the CCU; and converting (130) the calibration signal to a receiving frequency band of the RU. The method further comprises providing (140) the converted signal to the RU via at least one of the radio branch feeder cables, thereby enabling calibration of the Base Station.

    • A method and apparatus for accessing a wireless communication system, and for processing random access attempts. A mobile communication device detects random-access information transmitted by a base station, transmits a random-access preamble to the base station according to the random-access information, and receives a random-access response from the base station. The random-access response includes at least an allocation of uplink resources to be used for the next step in the random access procedure. The mobile device also selects a reference signal sequence index from a pre-determined set of sequence indexes, and transmits a first message to the base station using the uplink resource allocation provided in the random-access response. The first message includes a device identifier and a first demodulation reference signal derived from a base reference sequence shifted according to the selected sequence index.

    • In one aspect, the present invention improves Turbo equalization and/or soft interference cancellation processing in communication receivers by providing an efficient and accurate technique to compute the second moment of a received symbol, e.g., an interfering symbol, as a function of the expected bit values of only those bits in the symbol that are magnitude-controlling bits according to a defined modulation constellation. Advantageously, the expected bit values in at least one embodiment are computed using a LUT that maps bit LLRs to corresponding hyperbolic tangent function values. Further, the expected symbol value is computed as a linear function of terms comprising the expected bit values and the soft symbol variance is efficiently computed from the second moment and the expected symbol value squared. This simplified processing reduces receiver complexity, particularly in the context of modulation constellations having non-constant magnitudes, and thus saves power and/or improves design economics.

    • The present invention relates to channel decoding and provides ways and means for improved channel decoding of data frames. The frame has been channel encoded and transmitted to a receiver. The frame includes a part with information that is unknown to the receiver and another part with information for which the receiver generates at least one data hypothesis predicting its information content. The receiver performs a hypothesis-based decoding of the received encoded frame, wherein the at least one data hypothesis is used to improve a probability of successful decoding. The invention may advantageously be used to improve decoding of frames containing short control messages with fill bits, e.g. acknowledgement messages.
