    • An optical writing device forms an electrostatic latent image on a photosensitive element by a connected light source controlled by a light source control circuit that includes: a pixel data output unit; a pixel data correcting unit that corrects a skew between main scanning line of electrostatic latent image and photosensitive element and a local deviation of the electrostatic latent image on the main scanning line, and outputs pixel data; a pattern generating unit that outputs pixel data for forming a predetermined pattern in an electrostatic latent image; a first light source control unit for causing a first light source, that needs correction of the local deviation, to emit light; a second light source control unit for causing a second light source, that does not need correction of the local deviation, to emit light; and a switch that switches between a first transmission status and a second transmission status.

    • An image forming apparatus forming a color image with color toners includes a plurality of image forming members, an image transfer member, a plurality of sensors, a calculator, an edge extractor, a counter, and a misregistration corrector. The plurality of image forming members forms a plurality of test patches. The image transfer member receives the test patches. The plurality of sensors detects the test patches. The calculator performs a logical operation, e.g., an exclusive-OR operation, upon detection signals output by the sensors. The edge extractor detects edges and generates edge signals based upon an output signal of the calculator. The counter counts clock pulses with respect to the edge signals to determine a length of each of the test patches. The misregistration corrector calculates time lags among the detection signals based on count values counted by the counter for the test patches and correct misregistration of the color image based on the calculated time lags.

    • An UART receives asynchronous transmission serial data based on a baud-rate clock from a DTE. An MPU analyzes the data received by the UART. A baud-rate generating portion generates the baud-rate clock to be output to the UART in accordance with instructions from the MPU. A first counter measures the span of the start bit of the first character of an AT command transmitted from the DTE based on instructions from the MPU. A decoder receives a measurement result of the first counter, outputs frequency-dividing data for producing a clock for sampling the first character, and also outputs, when the rate of the start bit is more than a preset value, a flag indicating this matter. A second counter selects, in accordance with whether or not the flag is has been set, the frequency-dividing data from either the decoder or the MPU, and produces the sampling clock. A shift register receives data subsequent to the start bit of the first character based on the sampling clock from the second register, holds the received data, which data is then read by the MPU.
