    • A tissue cassette for use during histological examination of tissue preferably comprises a receptale and a lid. The lid is preferably pivotally attached to the receptacle about a pivot axis. The cavity preferably has a maximum width measurable anywhere parallel to the pivot axis that is greater than its maximum length measurable in any plane perpendicular to the pivot axis. The lid preferably has a maximum width measurable anywhere parallel to the pivot axis that is greater than its length measurable in a plane that bisects the maximum width of the lid and is perpendicular to the pivot axis. The cassette, with its lid closed against the receptacle, preferably has a maximum width measurable anywhere parallel to the pivot axis that is less than the maximum length of the cassette measurable in any plane perpendicular to the pivot axis. Also, a method for using two histological specimen cassettes is disclosed.

    • A histological specimen retaining device for processing tissue. The histological specimen retaining device comprises a foldable permeable sheet having edges and a permeable target disposed on the foldable permeable sheet within the edges of said sheet thereby providing extended flap portions. The extended flap portions are foldable to overlap the target. The histological specimen retaining device also comprises a malleable securing strip attached to the permeable sheet of a length sufficient to secure said folded flap portions overlapping said target.

    • The present invention is directed to an assembleable unit of cassettes for containing specimens for histological examination. The cassettes are each designed for stacking relation one to another by snap locking means which are preferably configured to provide an audible sound and “click” feeling when stacked. A cover is provided to complete a stack, thereby providing an integral unit for case management. The unit is so integrated that it can be handled and will not disengage the stacked cassettes in the usual handling process in the laboratory. It is also readily processed in a paraffin bath for preparing the contained specimens for microtomy. Thus, a stabilized unit is provided for multiple specimens from a single source and maintaining them in sequential order without individual handling.

    • A walking beam pumping system is disclosed wherein the pumping system's prime mover is gravity. In one embodiment, the system comprises a walking beam pivotally coupled to a support structure at a pivot point substantially central along the length of the walking beam. A counterbalance weight is disposed along the length of the walking beam. A position device is provided for moving the counterbalance weight along at least a portion of the length of the walking beam. As the counterbalance weight moves along the length of the walking beam, the beam's center of gravity is modulated. By modulating the position of the counterbalance weight in an appropriate manner, the walking beam is caused to pivot back and forth with respect to the support structure. A pumping assembly, for example a sucker rod string, is attached to one end of the walking beam, such that as the walking beam pivots back and forth, the pumping system is actuated to pump fluid out of, for example, an oil well bore. In one embodiment, the positioning device for moving the counterbalance weight comprises a linear motor.
