    • A capping member for an ink jet recording head is composed of a cap which is to be brought into contact with a surface of the recording head provided with nozzle orifices, and a cap case for holding the cap. A passage communicating an internal space defined by the cap with a suction hole connected to a suction pump and a passage communicating the internal space with an air hole connected to the outside are respectively formed into a specific shape so as to inhibit vaporization of an ink solvent in the internal space. A tube made of an elastic and restorative material is used for a tube connected to the suction pump. A tube made of a material having high gas-barrier characteristic is used for a tube connected to the capping member. Both of the tube is connected with each other by a connecting member in order to inhibit vaporization of an ink solvent from the tubes. Accordingly, the reliability of printing operation when printing is restarted after the long-term halt of the ink jet recording head is remarkably enhanced. The cap may be formed by fitting into a groove formed on a brim portion of the cup-shaped cap case having high rigidity. Therefore, elasticity of the cap can be controlled by the height thereof and can be deformed uniformly for whole periphery of the brim portion to attain high airtightness of the cap.

    • An ink jet recording apparatus comprises: at least one recording head having a face on which a plurality of nozzle orifices are formed, the recording head mounted on a carriage to be moved reciprocatively in the widthwise direction of a recording sheet; a capping device disposed in a non-print region of the recording head, the capping device including at least one cap unit for sealing the nozzle-formed surface of the recording head in cooperation with the movement of carriage; and a plurality of suction pumps for applying negative pressure in the interior space of the cap unit via suction tubes while the cap unit seals the nozzle-formed surface in cooperation with at least one drive source. The number of the suction pumps is at least equal to the number of the cap unit.

    • First and second circuits store therein source and destination operand addressing information from an instruction code as input information of a main decoder, respectively. A third circuit stores therein information other than operand addressing information from the instruction code as input information of the main decoder. A predecoder analyzes the instruction code and controls states of the first, second and third circuits. A first selector determines which information is input to the main decoder, from the first circuit, the second circuit or the third circuit. A processing selecting circuit causes the first selector to select information for each instruction, in a basic sequence of the first circuit, the second circuit and then the third circuit. The processing selecting circuit controls the first selector so that, if a state of at least one of the first and second circuits indicates that `processing is not required`, the circuit of the state of the indication is not selected and a subsequent circuit is selected instead. The main decoder obtains the information from the first, second and third circuits and controls each component of the central processing unit.
