    • A liquid crystal display device (100) includes a TFT substrate (110) including a TFT (10), an interlayer insulating layer which covers the TFT (10), a pixel electrode (12) electrically connected to the TFT (10) via a contact hole (14) formed in the interlayer insulating layer, a storage capacitor bus line (6) and a storage capacitor electrode (8) connected to the storage capacitor bus line (6), and a storage capacitor counter electrode (16) having a light-shielding property electrically connected to the TFT (10) and the pixel electrode (12), the storage capacitor counter electrode (16) constituting a storage capacitor portion together with the storage capacitor electrode (8) with an insulating layer interposed therebetween. The liquid crystal display device (100) also includes a counter substrate (120) including a counter electrode. Between the TFT substrate (110) and the counter substrate (120), a columnar spacer (24) is disposed in a center portion of a pixel region so as to at least partially overlap with the storage capacitor counter electrode. The contact hole (14) is provided so as to overlap with the storage capacitor counter electrode (16). A black matrix (20) includes a portion (20x) which integrally covers the TFT (10) and the columnar spacer (24).

    • A scan signal line drive circuit (32) for driving switching elements is provided in a frame area (24) of an active matrix substrate (20). A driver TFT element (42) is provided in each circuit section (36) which is part of a scan signal line drive circuit (32). The frame area (24) has a branch line (43) as a second line for supplying a signal to the driver TFT element (42) and a connecting line (44) as a first line connected to the branch line (43). The connecting line (44) and the branch line (43) are connected to each other in a connecting section (60). Both of the sides of the branch line (43), which specify the width of the branch line (43), are disposed in a contact hole (61) in planar view, the contact hole (61) being provided in a second insulating layer.

    • A semiconductor memory device has: memory blocks; and a local bus connected to the memory blocks. Each memory block has: switches respectively provided between bit line pairs and the local bus and each of which is turned ON in response to a selection signal; a dummy local bus; first and second control circuits. The local bus and the dummy local bus are precharged to a first potential before a read operation. In the read operation, the first control circuit outputs the selection signal to a selected switch to electrically connect a selected bit line pair and the local bus, while the second control circuit supplies a second potential lower than the first potential to the dummy local bus. The first control circuit stops outputting the selection signal when a potential of the dummy local bus is decreased to a predetermined set potential that is between the first and second potentials.
