    • The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device which hardly causes image sticking in a panel in which Cgd gradation is performed, even when the pixel capacitances of the picture elements are different from one another. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention is a liquid crystal display device which includes a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, and is configured such that a pixel is formed by picture elements of a plurality of colors, wherein one of the pair of substrates includes scanning lines, signal lines, storage capacitor lines, thin film transistors connected to both of the scanning lines and the signal lines, and pixel electrodes connected to the thin film transistors; the other of the pair of substrates includes a counter electrode; the pixel electrodes are arranged for the picture elements; a scanning line and a pixel electrode form a gate-drain capacitance; the gate-drain capacitance formed by a pixel electrode with a larger pixel capacitance among the pixel electrodes arranged in one pixel is larger than the gate-drain capacitance formed by a pixel electrode with a smaller pixel capacitance among the pixel electrodes arranged in the one pixel; an overlapping area of each of the pixel electrodes overlapped with the scanning line initially increases in a travelling direction of a scanning line signal but a rate of the increase subsequently decreases, in each of the pixel electrodes respectively arranged for the picture elements of single colors; and rates of increase are different among the pixel electrodes with different pixel capacitances.

    • An active matrix substrate capable of suppressing a change in an off characteristic of the TFT even when current passage time becomes longer is provided. A diode is connected between a video signal line and a conductive plate formed so as to cover a TFT of a pixel formation portion. Current is passed to the diode when a potential of a video signal applied to the video signal line is lower than that of the conductive plate, and the potential of the conductive plate becomes equal to that of the video signal line. No current flows when the potential of the video signal is higher than that of the conductive plate and the potential of the diode remains the same. Consequently, a leak current which flows from the pixel electrode of the pixel formation portion to the video signal line when the TFT is in the off state is suppressed.

    • A color display pixel PCD in a liquid crystal display device (100) includes first through fourth pixels P1 through P4 arrayed in two rows by two columns, and first and second signal lines (13a, 13b) which are located in correspondence with each column of pixels and are supplied with signal voltages of polarities opposite to each other from a signal line driving circuit (30) in each vertical scanning period.     • A diode (130) whose anode is connected to a conductive plate (140) formed so as to cover a TFT (120) of a pixel formation portion (110) and whose cathode is connected to a video signal line is provided. With the configuration, when potential of a video signal applied to the video signal line is lower than that of the conductive plate (140), a current is passed to the diode (130), and the potential of the conductive plate (140) becomes equal to that of the video signal line.
