    • The present invention is concerned with a method of distance protection of parallel transmission lines applicable both to series compensated and uncompensated electric power lines, using a distance relay. The method is characterized in that a pair of flags (ff1, ff2) are calculated for indication faulted and healthy circuits in parallel lines and in the same time a flag (Internal_Fault) for indication internal or external fault in parallel lines is calculated independently. Next gathering all calculated flags (ff1, ff2, Internal_Fault) an analyze of the value of these flags are performed and depending on the values of flags (ff1, ff2, Internal_Fault) and on their reciprocal relationship, a trip permission signal from the protection relay (4) is released and sent to the alarms devices or to the line breakers, or a block signal from the protection relay (4) is generated and sent to protect parallel lines before damage.

The subroutines utilize three phase currents synchronized measurements from both terminals and a three phase voltage measurements from one terminal for determining the respective per unit distance to a fault.

    • A method for locating faults in three-terminal and multi-terminal power lines, applicable in electric power systems for overhead and underground cable transmission and distribution lines. The inventive method is characterized in that it measures current for fault and pre-fault conditions and in one terminal station of the system line phase voltage for fault and pre-fault conditions is measured, a hypothetical fault location is assumed, the distances to the hypothetical fault locations are calculated and fault resistance is calculated, the actual fault point is selected by first comparing the numerical values concerning the distances to the hypothetical fault locations and rejecting those results whose numerical values are negative or bigger than one in relative units, and then by analysing the values of the calculated fault resistances for the fault locations and rejecting those results of the calculations for which the value of fault resistance is negative, and if there is still more than one calculation result remains not rejected then performing selection of the valid result by analysing the values of the calculated respective equivalent source impedances.

    • In a medium-voltage network, a method and a device for location of a fault on one of the lines having loaded branches. Common voltage and sum current are measured centrally prior to and after the occurrence of a fault. Positive sequence impedance of the line and a fictitious value of the positive-sequence impedance of the line, as viewed from each branch, is determined. A change of the fictitious value of two consecutive branches from a positive to a negative value is interpreted as if the fault is located on the intermediate line section. The fictitious value defines the distance on the line section from the branch with the latest positive value to the fault. The total distance to the fault is equal to the sum of the line sections up to the branch having positive values plus the distance of the faulty line section.
