    • An optical recording and/reproducing apparatus is capable of using a selected one of various types of recording/reproducing mediums including disc cartridges of at least two different sizes, a naked disc, and an adapter containing a disc having a diameter of 8 cm, by positioning the selected recording/reproducing mediums on one tray. The apparatus includes a tray mounted to the case and receivable into and withdrawable from the case. The tray accommodates the selected recording/reproducing medium so as to prevent movement of the recording/reproducing medium relative to the tray. A detecting section detects the size of the selected recording/reproducing medium positioned on the tray, and a state of a disc accommodated therein. A rotating section rotates the disc. An information recording/reproducing section records information onto, and/or reproduces information from, the disc rotated by the rotating section.

    • A pickup actuator employed in an optical device for recording/reproducing information on/from an optical disc by using an optical device. The pickup actuator has a base member, a pair of yokes disposed at the base member and spaced from each other at a predetermined distance, a pair of magnets respectively attached to inner side surfaces of the yokes, a lens holder which is suspended by two pairs of wire springs so as to be moved toward directions of focusing and tracking in a space defined between the magnets, and on which an objective lens is mounted, a driving coil disposed at the lens holder, for driving the lens holder toward directions of focusing and tracking by electromagnetically interacting with the magnets, a pair of supporting plates disposed on the wire springs adjacent to opposite sides of one of the magnets, and a damping fluid applied between the pair of supporting plates and both opposite side portions of the one magnet, respectively for damping the vibration occurring at the lens holder when the lens holder is driven. Accordingly, when a vibration at the lens holder occurs, the vibration is directly damped by the damping fluid disposed between the one magnet and the wire springs which are supporting by the lens holder. Thus, an objective lens is allowed to reach a designated spot more rapidly. Accordingly, the pickup actuator can be employed in an optical device having the vibration of high intensity, such as in automobiles, etc.

    • A method of synchronizing a first device capable of displaying video content and including the video content, and a second device capable of displaying E-book content associated with the video content and including the E-book content. The first device is connected to the second device according to a specific protocol. In response to a specific event for the video content or the E-book content occurring in one of the first and second devices, the device in which the specific event occurs generates event information about the specific event and transmits it to the other of the first and second devices, and performs the specific event according to the event information. Upon receiving the event information, the other of the first and second devices performs the specific event according to the received event information in synchronization with the device in which the specific event occurred, using synchronization information between the video content and the E-book content.
