    • Wireless devices form a significant portion of equipment forming the source/destination of content transmitted over telecommunications infrastructure together with applications such as RF identification, smart tags, etc. As such the wireless spectrum supports these devices operating to multiple standards, both licensed and unlicensed. In many environments it would be beneficial for a network administrator to know whether the environment and network they are responsible for is compliant to policies established in dependence of the environment/network. The invention provides distributed wireless signal analyzers within the environment/network to provide signal/spectrum analysis and determine whether received signals by the wireless signal analyzer are compliant to the network administrator policy. Compliance may be based upon time or frequency domain measurements with different rules for different wireless spectrum regions. Non-compliance is communicated to remote servers and/or network administrator and allows local control of network equipment.

    • The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for agile RF spectrum monitoring in a radio system with dynamic frequency access. It provides a spectrum monitor based on non-coherent heterodyne detection that utilizes a DDS signal generator to digitally generate a reference signal at a variable reference frequency for mixing with an input RF signal received from an RF antenna, a pass-band filter and a log amplifier for obtaining energy estimates at a monitored transmission frequency corresponding to the reference frequency. A processor is provided for adaptively selecting sets of monitored transmission frequencies, for controlling the DDS signal generator, and for processing obtained spectral energy estimates to assess spectral usage data.

    • Wireless communication is ubiquitous today and deployments are growing rapidly leading to increased interference, increasing conflicts, etc. As a result monitoring the wireless environment is increasingly important for regulators, service providers, Government agencies, enterprises etc. Such monitoring should be flexible in terms of the networks being monitored within the wireless environment but should also provide real-time monitoring to detect unauthorized transmitters, provide dynamic network management, etc. Accordingly, based upon embodiments of the invention, a broadband, real-time signal analyzer (RTSA) circuit that allows for the deployment of RTSA devices in a distributed environment wherein determination of policy breaches, network performance, regulatory compliance, etc. are locally determined and exploited directly in network management or communicated to the central server and network administrators for subsequent action. Beneficially the RTSA exploits a broadband RF front end in conjunction with parallel direct down conversion and FFT techniques.
